I did a book talk last year on it. I read it on my own steam though, it wasn't a class thing. George Orwell seemed to have some kind of window to the future (not necessarily with this book) but with Animal Farm. It was like a model of Soviet Russia.
I think it's very interesting the way the guy (can't remember the name, Stan or something?) ends up loving Big Brother. I suppose that's the ultimate facist society because everyone cheated themselves into thinking that the way they lived was acceptable. It was also very realistic the way they changed the literature. It shows how the people in power control history (or they used to).
