The Revird Has Outdone The Bbs

Late yesterday night, February 25 2007, The Revird, a niche forum with about 20 active members, hit a landmark. Thousands of guests came pouring in, and none of us knew why. Hundreds at a time, flooding the index. Many of us were confused. Why would a noncommercial website, who many haven't ever heard of get so many guests? It was SlipperyMooseCakes, our founder, that discovered it. They were all in the Video Game section, hundreds upon hundreds looking at one article.

Halo 3 pics, links, and videos, dug out by SMC. The thread had been up since November 22. It turned out that SMC had advertised that thread on Digg.com. He got it to 1# on the gaming page.

After the confusion, there was rejoicing. Why? Because at the end of the night, 948 people had been on at one time. That's more than twice the amount the BBS has ever had. Here is the thread that compiled the happenings of the event.

I think you're having a difficult time differentiating the difference between having 900 unregistered users on and having 300 registered users on.

On NG you're talking about thousands of people on at the same time. The following goes for basically all forums and user systems, only a TINY percent of actual visitors will register, which is why NG having this many registered users on at the same time is amazing.

Haha, I don't know why, but I've never gotten the urge to. My above comment was in no way a strike at The Revird, though; I actually hear it's quite nice. I just feel that the OP's criteria of what makes a forum "good" is skewed, to say the least.

I just realized something else as well - you're basing your argument on the number of users online, registered or not.

You had more users than the BBS because of all the guests, right? You forgot that NG doesn't show the number of unregistered users online, so NG could still have had a larger number of visitors online than The Revird (even though I don't feel that quantity in any way indicates quality).

Again, I'm not pointing a finger at The Revird, I'm pointing it at VespeneGas. As I said above, I hear good things about The Revird, and I have nothing against it. However, the OP is one of the people making it less attractive.
