Ok, everyone knows that when you put a fork in the microwave it sparks up a storm. Same deal with anything that's metal, like gold on china, or CD's and the like.
How does a microwave work such that the entire thing does not spark and go crazy? It's made out of metal isn't it?
Apparantly it uses a metal fan to distribute the microwaves evenly, so whats the deal? Microwave metal is better than the rest?
It's started to bother me more than that fucking purple ketchup they released a while back.

Purple? We've had green and yellow ketchup for years.

The microwaves aren't bouncing around all over the fan, they just pass by it.
CDs are really cool in micowaves, srsly. So are ants.

The waves themselfves are controled and focused to the center away from the metal. They also shot out of the window... I think. I'm not sure. Wikepedia it, if you need to know so badly.

I clearly remember the sketch from my physics book. They microwaves definatly bounce.
Oh, and why would it even matter...it should still spark because its METAL right?

It depends on the molecular structure of the metal.

no they dont shot out the window... you know that bblack thing with lots of tiny holes so you can see whats inside... well the wave length is so large that it cannot pass through those holes

So I've done all the looking myself and it turns out that American-Chinker was right. And yeah, there is a bloody "fan" or antenna that evenly distributes the waves all over the place.
The more you know!
