Ok, I have Flash 8(latest version) and this has only been happening since about yesterday, but it is the most frustrating thing you can imagine. Usually, when I(or anyone) press's 'enter' or has the controller open and press's play, the playhead smoothly moves across the timeline, but for some reason, that isnt happening for me. The playhead only moves one frame. It stops. I have no idea why it is doing that, has anybody run into a situation like this before? Did I set something, not even realizing i set it?
Also, when I hold enter, it slowly makes its way awkwardly across the timeline.
If anybody could be of assistance to my dilema, it would be greatly appreciated.
One of your keys is probably stuck.
Press shift, enter, alt, tab, space and that a few times to make sure.
woop.
i tried that button combo thing, didnt work, and I am pretty postive that none of the keys are stuck because i opened up an older version of flash( flash 6) and everything was working fine. It's only happening in Flash 8.
...did you check the "enable simple frame actions" option in the control menu?
I didnt check it. And even when i do, nothing changes. I've went through the entire control menu, and when I make changes to it, the problem still persists.
I really have no idea what to do. Should I try reinstalling flash, or any other suggestions?
I would suggest just closing and opening flash, it happens sometimes to me and it is quite annoying.

This happens to me sometimes. This might not be the problem for you (I use a Mac), but try closing Flash, closing any other programs you have open (especially audio-related things, like Audacity or Quicktime Player), and re-opening Flash. If that doesn't work, reboot.
wolf piss
I am on a mac too. I tried closing all the programs, and rebooting and all of that. It started last night, and its really bugging me now, any other suggestions?
...maybe it's just your file. If you wanna send it to me, I can take a look at it to see if it does the same thing here (on a mac too).
Copy and save your .fla and .swf files into another folder outside of the Macromedia file. Completely uninstall the program, then reinstall it. Place that new folder, with your old .fla and .swf back in the Macromedia file.
That should solve the problem :P
Ok, I deleted flash( i am on a mac, so i basically manually deleted all the files), and then reinstalled it, and the problem is still there. Now what?
Its also not just the file, it's the program because even when I start a new cartoon, the problem is still there.
Now what?
...did you delete the Preference file in the Library too? Do you have enough ram? ...I dunno what else to suggest, sorry! Hope you figure it out!
I completely removed flash 8 . What do you mean the preference file in the libary?
...I don't know how you have yours set up, but I have a Users folder on my HD. Inside that is a Library Folder, which has a Preferences Folder, inside that is a file named "com.macromedia.flash.8.plist", and another named "Flash 8 Preferences" ...try moving those 2 files out of the Library folder (to the desktop), launch flash and see if it helps... if not, you can put 'em back (but I believe new ones will be created automatically).
That didnt work either. When I open a new file, and make some blank frames, it works normally(now after doing the suggestion). But as soon as something goes into those frames, it goes back to its old not playing self. I dont think its the specific file, or soemthing, i have no idea now. Maybe it is a computer issue, and not flash related...thanks for all the assistance, its really helpful, if you can think of anything else, I'm willing to try anything.

well im not to good with flash so you most likely have tried this but here is my suggestion if it stopes on the first fram put in
nextFrame(); and on your second frame put play(); and it could work. it works for me when i try it so thats all i can think of
or whatever i mean if that works awesome it's just a thought so plz don't call me stupid im only 16 and just started with flash lol sry
