Expenses aside, things are looking up! Here is where things stand with our bandwidth:
1) When we were released from Troma, we took on hosting responsibilities for the old Tromaville Coalition, which was basically disbanded. In return, Troma let us keep the machines they were using for the coalition (a web server for the hosted sites, and an ad server). We decided not to run the network ad server anymore, so it has become a free machine that we had yet to hook up to the NG server cluster.
2) Francois (Troma's former tech guy who now provides hosting tech support to NG directly) has hooked up the old ad server directly to the router IP for our new bandwidth line. While we are unable to hook multiple servers up to the new line, we do have that single connection open. It's a crazy idea, but it should work.
So basically, we have a cluster of servers connected to the first 100mbps line, and a SINGLE server with the second 100mbps line all to itself. This isn't optimal, but it should result in visible improvements. Respond to this thread and let us know if games and movies are downloading faster for you now.
This is just a temporary fix. I have ordered MORE machines, so we will be able to set up a router and some more webservers to manage the extra bandwidth (ETA: 2 weeks). Once this is done, the results of the upgrade will hopefully be very obvious. Cross your fingers, and think positive thoughts - hope this will all work out! :)
Yeah, I had a shitty 3 meg movie load in a matter of seconds with my cabel connection so I would say, connection-wise, things are looking up. Now if you guys could earmark a planned fix for the voting system or the threshold s that are allowing a ton of crap to live, coupled with the fact that 99% of the users are scared to vote 0 cause' they think Wade will delete thier accounts if they do, then we'd be well on our way to some major improvements.
Oh, I'm sorry, did I say that last part out loud? OH PLEEEEZE WADE, DONT BAN MEH!!!!!!!
