I have to say it works well. I mean I just download one ring to rule them all 2 and it downloaded alot faster. can't wait till two weeks and see how much better the site runs then
The speed has indeed improved to utilize my reasonable 512kbps line to the fullest. Wasn't just a temporary thing.
This post was hard to understand on my soft brain. But I gather that you have 2x 100Mbps lines, one of them has several servers, joined in a HUB or a router ? and the other 100Mbps line has the used-to-be-an-adserver alone.
What made that slow to understand were these 2 lines, from last 2 mainpage posts clashing with each other:
1)Due to a policy change by our provider, we can no longer just hook our machines directly into their pipe - we need to use a router as the go-between.
2) So basically, we have a cluster of servers connected to the first 100mbps line, and a SINGLE server with the second 100mbps line all to itself.
Sorry, i didnt felt that much of a difference yet on the download of flash. WORSER, i got alot of that "bandwith overload" screen, and i dont think NG was on one of those "full house" days.
Anyways, Good Job. NG´s lookin´ better then EVER!
With the YAEE´S, and HURRA´s of :
TFP
I downloaded one of those piece of shit animations that's just 3 megs of high-quality audio in less than a minute. That's a first. It almost wasn't a waste of my time.
Your confusing me know with all the technical stuff, but all that doesn't matter as long as it works.
I agree with everyone, it is working better, but before ya know it you'll have another problem.
Its Been quicker with loading big things by like 3x so its a big inprovment!
It's been running smoothly for me! Keep up whatever you've been doing!
I'm recieving files at close to 80kb/sec. And that's right now on a monday night.
Cool, yo.
I'm noticing a change already.
Brilliant stuff Tom!
i have noticed that the vids load faster now.
Tom great Job the site is a hell of a lot faster hope you can keep it this way buddy
Yay, maybe it will let me play that roning game now.
So far movie loads have been going at least twice as fast. A wonderful job as usual, Tom.
Holy shit! The movies are actually loading for me! Even though I have cable, they would always stop loading, so i'd only get to see a very small portion of it but now...its...its a miracle! way to go Tom!
lots of chocolate covered noses. and glazed over mouths.
the site's working better for me then it has in months, good job :D

Same damn thing happened to me... now... OMG IT LIEK WERKS!

Within the last 24 hours something has happened, now I can download 524 kbps of my 512 kbps. (not a typo)So yes, a MILD improvement. Still getting alot of "Server is under extreme load" but when it works, it flies.
We are hoping the internal server errors will be corrected when we plug in all the new machines and get everything "cleaned up".

Basically, our first cluster of servers is hooked up WITHOUT a router - which they are allowing because it has been that way since before the policy change. For the NEW line, however, we are unable to hook up multiple servers the same way - we have to hook up a single router and spready it out from there. Instead of a router, however, we have temporarily hooked up a single webserver. It does sound confusing. :)

I hope you router work out all right b/c i have one here at my house b/c i have my video game systems that go online and my desktop computer and my laptop go online. And my router is being a bytch to me i hope you can have better luck.
Its running better than ever. its 8:30 and the flashes go every time.
thank you!!! i think i'm inlove with tom...not really. all this bandwidth news, its boggaling, and that other bandwidth topic from yesterday is just under this one, haha, welp, back to finding a topic to go to, peace, good luck tom!
Yes, I have noticed the movies load MUCH faster, especially during non-peak times.
For those ppl complaining about still getting half-loaded movies, and stalls, I'll give this advice...
It seems that once a day or so I have to clear out my cookies, plus run the disk cleanup option (on XP), then reboot. If I have a problem loading a movie after that, I refresh the window with the movie link in it and it works fine.
It might be noob advice, I don't know. But hopefully it helps someone...
Out of curiosity, how do you make the money from the website to keep it running with such large bandwidth requirements?
