I think the greatest thing about the net is the vast amount of information you can obtain. Another great thing is how awesome it is to communicate with people all over the world. Anything good thing can be used to do bad things. People will misuse anything and everything to their advantage and that is what mainly sucks about the net. I can’t help but think that the internet is a way to always keep up connected though. I don’t wanna sound paranoid about government conspiracies but I like to keep an open mind and consider all the possibilities. The web could be an attempt to tap into who we are. When I have a problem or whatever with AOL I can call up and the representative can easily tell me word for word what I said in any conversation. That freaks me out because if they can have access to that there is no telling what the boundaries are.

It gives the opportunity for little runts to hide behind anonymity and make pathetic insults, without any risk of having their faces pounded in like in the good old days.

I was thinking more along the lines of the overwhelming twat population on Yahoo. Asshole. Hey, I can call you an asshole and get away with it, asshole! Look at me, me so clever!!! ASSHOLE!!! Getting the idea?
Still, the time somebody used hack software and posted one such person's address on the board was a sight...

There's a problem with that too though D2K. A big advantage of the net is anonymity, by being able to speak up without fear of repercussions people are able too say what they really think or want. Yeah you get the wanks but you also get people with real insights who might not otherwise speak out.

Ahhh, the vast anonymity of the internet; a double edged sword in the constant array in one's struggle to discover themselves as members in society. This anonymity grants you the privilege to speak out in favor of your own personal views without any more repurcussion than an expletive-filled post. By that same token however, one could find themselves lost upon a sea of those sharing the same views, another meaningless number in the seemingly Orwellian information Utopia that is the internet. It can become hard to distinguish your views, art, and critiques as your own, when a cut and paste world is there for your manipulation, and that of others. Is the anonymity aspect of the internet more of a positive thing in that more people can speak out, or is it a negative thing, that grants these benefits at the cost of individuality?
An interesting question to discuss, no?

That's why the DAG exists. Come to us you poor disenfranchised masses and huddle beneath the sheltering chaos of the DAG.
You know you want too.
Seriously though you've got a good point though Preach, is the net's anonymity worth the mountains of waste it allows? A damn good question.

It still amazes me that we have the ability to transfer information and ideas instantly to anywhere in the world except for Ethiopia. We can thank the internet for everything from the Policis Crew to Daryl Cagle's political cartoon index.
And for 10 handy tips to help weed your garden without ruining your clothes! What would I do without those?

Thanks. I'd appreciate it, though, if you didn't advertise the DAG or any other crew/club etc. anywhere other than your signature. I don't march off into threads proclaiming the Politics Crew to the ones to accept such disenfranchised masses.
Oddly ironic, though, isn't it? Me being a preacher, and not a missionary...

Of course, then you get about 20,000 people that think alike (or not, as the case usually goes) shouting them down. not debating, generally with the usual methods of Try And Prove They Is Stupid, or if that fails, Good Ol' Fashioned abuse.
There is a reason I stopped using the IMDb, since it's the bastion of rampaging republican automoton motherfuckers, that literally dismiss you by using the word "Liberal" as if it were worse than saying "cunt." They don't listen, or take information on board, they just bitch until you want to jump down the wires, come crashing through their screen, and choke the life out of them with your bare hands. Ahem...

Word. I had this same problem.
(These are words I am typing so that I don't get an error message when I try to post this page. I'd like to take the oppurtunity to thank The Shrike, for making me a new signature pic, and el_folka, for drawing a cartoon of me in the "Regulars" Lounge thread. Thanks.)
