Multiculturalism doesn't damage a country by itself. For the US, it has made it stronger.

The difference with France, and the reason that their diversity is hurting them, is essentially that they have alienated their immigrant population. In France, immigrants hate France, and keep their won isolated pockets of culture within France, their host country that they despise. This makes it so that even 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation immigrants don't assimilate into French society, and learn to despise France.

Whereas in the US, immigrants tend to assimilate into society and become very American. For instance, look at German-Americans, or French-Americans, or Spanish-Americans, or Chinese, korean, or Japanese Americans.

Once they live in the US for a few generations, they tend to keep their old culture only in thought and admiration, yet integrate into American culture at the same time.

For instance, my cousin's parents are pure Arab, Lebanese immigrants who moved here a year or so before he was born. Yet my cousin is into baseball, American football, and is an extremely patriotic American, as am I (minus the baseball part). I am only roughly half Lebanese of ancestory, but I am a 4th generation immigrant me, my brothers and sisters, my parents and grandparents learned to love the US and consider ourselves to be Americans first.

In France, their immigrants shun French culture, and militantly try to create a colony of sorts of their native culture inside of France.

Why is this exactly? I don't know, but it might have to do with the way that French immigrants are treated by their government and their society as a whole. They don't have a very welcoming society.

So don't just pretend multiculturalism is bad in and of itself. It can be bad and can lead to the decline of a nation, but this is only if they aren't smart about how they integrate their immigrants into the population.

as well, while America was still spraying blacks with fire hoses, France was giving them asylum, and if you're not aware, multi culturalism in America is failing. blacks are committing tremendous amounts of crime, the biggest gangs in America are Mexican and after black and Hispanics the third highest demographic of gang members are Asiatic.

They treat criminals magnificantly. But French society, not just the government, tends to treat them as second class citizens.

That's more of an indication of the difference between the culture of America 50 years ago and the American culture now. We are growing more and more clipue-ish every year. When my grandparents moved here from Sweeden, after they had kids, they didn't even speak Sweedish in the house, because they wanted their children to be as "american" as possible. Nowadays, we try to accomodate nearly everyone (remember the whole "Ebonics" craze in the 90's?) within their own ethnic clique so we don't "discriminate" against them... which creates more division in the end. AMerica used to be the great melting pot... now we're more of a chunky stew... still delicious, but coagulating into yuck rather quickly.

Here's hoping we can pull our head out of our politically-correct asses soon, and get people to take responsibility for their own assimilation again.

Not really. As much as I enjoyed going to visit historic France, Paris was dirty and as cellardoor said there are areas of French cities full of Africans, (mainly Algerians) that the French government has completely forgotten about.

However,the reason America is so diverse is because thats what its meant to be, a social experiment. Millions of Europeans, Asians and people went there from all over the world in order to leave behind poverty in search of a new chance.
