more detailed explaination:
1. i draw the basic shapes using the pencil or line tool.
2. i fill them with color.
3. i add several other frames to creat motion.
4. save symbol as movie clip and add it to my movie.
5. when i play said scene or movie none of the symbols that were drawn are shown.
why is it that symbols using the pencil or line tool doesnt animate like the brush tool or converting the lines to fills? or is there a problem with what im doing?
any and all help will be appreciated.

Deny the big lie, don't beLIEve and don't conform.
Convert the shape the movieclip and do the animation inside the movieclip, I don't know
I'm not completely sure of what you're doing, but if you're doing exactly what you're saying in those steps, what you've ended up with is a movie clip with one frame.
Typically, I draw the first frame, then I convert it over to a movie clip, then I draw the other frames.
better explaination i guess;
1. i draw my first frame an convert this to a movie clip
2. i open the movie clip and add more frames of animation into it. most of them so far have been walking cycles which are about 6 to 8 frames stretched into about 16 to 20 total frames.
3. i close the movie clip and place it in my scene where it should be and adjust the frame length to how long i need it to run.
4. control alt enter to test the scene.
5 the scene plays but all the movie clips that contain things drawn with the pencil tool and the line tool do not show in the scene.
the only thing i have found that fixes this is to draw each thing and modify> convert lines to fills... only problem with this is if you draw a complicated item it deletes a lot of the lines when you modify it to convert the lines to fills, therefor i have to redraw part of the item and convert it again, and it sometimes redeletes more lines....... this is very tedious.
just so you know my backgrounds that i make are the same way. single frame symbols with lines and pencil not showing either.
i just wanted to know if any one else came across this. i have been working on the same project for 3 months on and off because of this. let me tell you animating the same movie clips over and over is becoming a pain in my ass.
please someone help me.

Confusing...try this:
1 Press Crtl>F8
2 Name your Symbol and select Movie Clip
3 Animate whatever you like in there. It's up to you.
4 Click 'Time line' at the top left of the screen to get outa the movieclip.
Make sure there are plenty of frames in the real timeline now, to match up with the amount of frames in your movieclip.
5 Hit Ctrl> Enter to test you movie.
Hope it helped :D
