I was thinking about this earlier and i thought it would be fun to have a thread that is a collection of creative things going on in the web. Something that someone can come to and just look at different creative things people out there are doing, wether be it professional work, amateur or anything in between.

In essence its a link pool to things you think are creative and highly refreshing.. they dont even have to be about flash it can be some youtube thing you saw or whatever.

The rule is that your link should have a title and some sort of small blurb of what it is you are showing.

Also DO provide a screenshot of whatever it is you are linking to. Anything without a screenshot will be deleted. No guessing game links here.

I'll be monitoring this thread myself. HAVE FUN and be inspired.

Heres a sample to kick things off:

Shadows and silohuettes
I ran into this commercial featuring hand shadows and it was sort of cool how it starts off as something very simple and grows insanely elaborate as it goes on... by the end you forget that its all hand shadows. Enjoy

Here, you lot may enjoy this. It's basically a bunch of british comedians set in famous situations, such as Gazza and Vinnie Jones famous ball grab (picture 1).

- Guardian unlimited pictures

--

And also this. I'm not in the mood for typing alot, but basically here's two links to directors you may be intrested in - Jonathan Glazer & Chris Cunningham. Chris Cunningham is notorious for workinkg with the likes of Aphex Twin and produced the infamous 'Rubber Johnny'.

Jonathan Glazer is another director who has made alot of original adverts music videos. He's also delved into films, directing Sexy Beast in 2000. Both of them mainly make Music promo's & adverts.

One intresting thing i've found with Glazer is that, over the course of the last ten years, most of the best adverts i've liked are made by him..

DO check out some stuff you will learn something.

- Jonathan Glazer iMDb
Jonathan Glazer YouTube
few selected works:
The dreamer(Guiness), Bravia (Sony), Rabbit in your head lights, Street spirit, Karma police & Virtual insanity.

- Chris Cunningham YouTube
few selected works: Window licker, Rubber Johnny, All is full of love, Come on my selector, Come to daddy

This is one of the coolest pages on 3D animation I have ever seen. Basically, it showcases the work an applied mathematician that specializes in simulating 3D physics animations. The next time you go "wow, that's cool" at some ragdoll physics in a flash game, just remember what the true pros are capable of :P

His main site:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/

Some particularly cool examples:

Cloth physics:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/animatio ns/cloth0.avi

Fracture physics:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/animatio ns/20walls.avi

Tearing phyiscs:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/animatio ns/armadillo_tear.mov

Liquid physics:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~fedkiw/animatio ns/glass00.avi

The pic including is of the fracture one.

How about instead of bitching about it you actually post something exciting to make it not so dead?

Anyway, Chris Cunningham ftw, deeply creative guy. I wish there were more people like him... at some point you just get tired of seeing the same old stupid bentleys and rolls royce phantoms in these stupid rap videos.. how refreshing would it be to one day make something really abstract and artistic some day....

Stars wars next gen yada yada

I don't really check out video game websites to often, as they don;t usually interest me, unless it's something specific. But, I just had a look at this website thanks to an article linked from Digg on.. games. Which I haven't watched.

Anyway yeah, I just checked out this site and have found something pretty intresting. It's the physics or whatever for a new Star wars game 'The Force unleashed'. In it you can see Storm troopers grasping for there life onto wooden beams that splinter and break under there weight, then R2D2's being thrown at a piece of plywood, that also breaks.

Enjoy :)

itunes/ipod adverts
I always loved the adverts that apple come up with. They're really cool looking and very stylish. There are no other adverts i deliberatly find and watch on the internet, thats why i think they're amazing.
Each advert does the same concept but manages to make it not boring by making subtle changes.

Anyway, enjoy!

Bikini Ragdoll

I'm sure pretty much everyone has heard of the 'Bikini Ragdoll', it was one of the first ever flash ragdolls (Flash 5 i believe).

It demonstrates how with just a little knowledge, and persistence, you can create something fun, addictive, and original. It also shows the power of flash, and if this was done using AS1, just think what AS3 is capable of.

Anyway, here's a link if you want to play around with it.

I've got another one coming :D.

Hell Of Sand

Another reasonably old game, but again, a very original, fun and addictive one. Hell Of Sand is a Java based game using a complex particle generator, you can manipulate all the elements (Sand, Salt, Water, Oil).

You can also use cement to trap those elements, eg, you could make a basin of oil, fill it with zombies and light it on fire (pic).

Anyway, its a great game with some nice physics. With AS3 coming up, im sure someone will make something like this, with even better physics and graphics.

Nice idea Luis, i'll keep checking in ;).

Acid trip: Nine drawings

This is something quite intresting that was posted in the art forum some time ago.

These 9 drawings were done by an artist under the influence of LSD -- part of a test conducted by the US government during it's dalliance with psychotomimetic drugs in the late 1950's.

Just to give this thread a bit of a bump.

Ad rant

I was watching telly earlier and there was an advert that came on that was good. And after knowing about a couple of advert directors (check Jonathan Glazer/Chris Cunningham above) I had a look on the web to see if I could find out anything about the director, or any background info.

I found the advert on this site, along with background info, the director and so on. I found out the director was the one who made those short snippet adverts that came before 24.

It's intresting to me to see who's behind all these, and that they just don't pop out the sky. If you think, someone has to be making all these adverts, programs etc on TV, but who.

Flash can do a lot of amazing stuff, and you'll see a lot lot more cool stuff now that AS3, which is very powerful, is out.

Saw this at the last Animation Show that came through San Diego a couple months ago. Turns out, they're not a bunch of selfish assholes and actually put their stuff up on a website.
Check out "City Paradise" when you click the link. It's a really outstanding hybrid!

I'd give a direct link, but it's a Flash website.
