3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsThough science constantly seems to be attempting to disprove religion, I don't see why the two can't coexist. Most people seem to think that the "Big Bang" theory and the concept of God are two conflicting ideas. I see no reason why it can't be said that God created the Big Bang, eventually forming our modern day universe.
Another hotly disputed item is the book of Genesis. Not all Christians take the Bible as 100% truth and I'd go as far to say that most of them don't. In fact, Genesis wasn't written by Christians but by the Jews. The first five books of the Bible all were, and these books are often where conflict arises. It can be said that the Jewish people wrote down these tales (possibly based [loosely] on actual events) so that people could remember the law better. These stores added to God's greatness while laying out a foundation for Jewish law.
Now, let me touch upon the recent rise in complaints regarding displays of public faith. People have no reason to complain, and are probably in no way offended by statues or nativities. You hate Christians, and seek to ruin their good time while accomplishing nothing yourself. (I might address this issue in greater detail in a later thread).
Finally, I present you with a reason to find yourself a religion (apart from Scientology, which is possibly the most retarded idea I have ever heard of). If you're an atheist, and there is a God, then you'll eventually have to answer to Him and look like an ass when you present your life resume. However, if you have a religion, and you stick to your values and live a good life, then even if it turned out you were worshipping the wrong God, he might be one of mercy and see that you lived a life of virtue, thus saving your soul for eternity (personally, I don't believe in hell, but you might want to play it on the safe side and act a little pious).
I'M AN ATHEIST LOL.

you must be a troll
if you have a religion, and you stick to your values and live a good life,.
ahahahhahhahahhhha
ok
face it, science outweighs religion, christians r false and all they got is a big book of morals so you can "live a good life". and every single atheist vs religion debate even on tv always ends with the scientists owning the religious ppl and the last thing the religious people have to say is "we have morals"
Tis better to sit in silence and be presumed a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

Mainly because athiest people demand logic, they believe what they can see or reason. Theist people believe what they think, and have faith in things.
Faith tramples all reason, logic, and common sense.

Thanks, fahrenheit, for maintaining standards of intelligent discussion in this thread.
I'M AN ATHEIST LOL.
in 100 years god isnt going to come on down and were all going to believe in it
Thanks, fahrenheit, for maintaining standards of intelligent discussion in this thread.
gtfo, you cant just say why cant the two coexist and then say atheists are going to have to face god when they die, dont even use the word intelligent
dont you remember a long time ago when science was put down by religion, a big split happened. science prevailed and now we have computers to argue with 15 year olds who dont know any better. liek me
i think atheists vs religion is getting too popular everywhere like on tv
idk what fahrenheit is wanting to imply, adding on?? that im such a science lover that maybe if you can get this, that i believe in the hypothesis to something like global warming i cant have my opinion changed, but sometime in the future its disproved and now i feel like such an idiot, so much that i realized my opinion on god might be wrong too. so now i kill myself and have a chat with god, maybe you guys should kill yourselfs too and "face him"

I'm saying science is rapid and can change in an instant. You can never have a grip on reality because in a few decades that reality can be proven false.
Yeah, I know that sounded corny but you get the point.
that im such a science lover that maybe if you can get this, that i believe in the hypothesis to something like global warming i cant have my opinion changed,
Well if you cant have your opinion changed then you're becoming what you hate so much.

ok lets all just agree that the existence of god and afterlife type stuff will never be answered and the science around that wont change, just the evidence against it will keep building
let this topic die and have a new one with a more neutral topic starter who doesnt say why cant we coexist and list a bunch of piss poor points of why you should join a religion because you'd have to face god when you die.

huuuuuuuuuuuuuuum
dude, I'm pretty sure science found him. It was like last year, he was hiding in a hole. I remember, he was just this old man with a big beard. They put him in prison for crimes against humanity ( which made sense when you think about it, for the wars and plagues and whatever ) and they hung him earlier this year.
I think you can find the videos on youtube.
Anyways, yeah, God's dead now :/

Isnt that the opposite of what this thread is about?
let this topic die and have a new one with a more neutral topic starter
Whats the difference?

Ok, I cant understand that. I'm going to assume you said this

Which is laughable. Stay on topic.

you should stay on topic, or read the first post
that person is crazy, youre making points i know already and im thinking youre crazy and share the same beliefs as the topic starter
do you believe in god too?

Atheism may not be a religion, but it IS a faith. To differentiate the two like that is problematic in my opinion.

Name a single piece of evidence contradicting the existence of a higher being or an afterlife. Heck, I would like to see you name a single piece of evidence that could emerge contradicting them.
im not talking about higher beings, i disagree with the christian god and reading a bible and atheist articles wants me
you see the topic starter is talking about that god
the other posters ive read their history of posting, and the leanings remind of other crazy people. theyre crazy too

*shrug* There is too much variation in interpretation to knock down every individual Christian
belief with any scientific evidence. One Christian might reject evolution based on his own interpretation, but most probably do not. Good luck finding any scientific facts that disprove Christianity in general.
you see the topic starter is talking about that god
Actually, I am pretty sure he is talking about God as a general concept. But only he knows for sure...

Crazy for doing what?
I'm agnostic. :D And just because someone doesn't believe in God doesn't mean they hate them.
And I don't hate Christians and i'm pretty sure the large majority of atheists don't too.
And if there is a God, it's not like I miscalculated 1 + 1. Whether there is a God is only a question humans have pondered for millions of years. And there are so many different religions; how am I supposed to pick the right one?
I'll just have to wait and see to find the truth or just realize how stupid I've been and how obvious it is........ nope, still don't know!
Atheists want to believe that everything is tangible and reachable in a humane process. However, the very questionable fact that matter exists is fact that atheists have as much faith in sciences as theists(?) have faith in their religions.
Both religion and science are beliefs. Arguing over the the absurdness of one belief over another is inefficient due to the relativity of meaning to "the other" individual.
I'm going to pee now.

Atheists have faith backed up with considerably better evidence than what theists have. Its faith, but not blind faith.
Both religion and science are beliefs.
...
Science is NOT a belief. I'll give you atheists having faith (in there being no God), but science is not something that you can just stop believing in. Unlike religion, it actually has a tangible effect on the world and can be seen and measured. If you don't believe in science, why are you on a computer?

One more note, I am agnostic as you are and don't choose any religion because I like to see proof with my own eyes. Now I never say that religion is wrong, just that I don't know what is true and untrue.
If there is a god, I agree with the original poster that a being of that knowledge and awesome power, probably would have factored in everything down to the smallest molecule. And seeing as how the universe is so big, I really don't agree with many religions' view that Earth is the center and all important place in the universe. I think that is just us trying to justify our existence.
Logically, what would be the point of making us on this little blue planet in the Milky Way galaxy so special when there is such a vast universe out there that has so many possibilities, so many things we cannot even fathom. From what we have done in exploring the universe, we haven't even scratched the surface.
So I ask again, why would this little blue planet in the Milky Way galaxy, one of trillions of galaxies and possibly much more, we can see only so far. Why would we be so important in the grand scheme of things? How do we know that we are not part of something larger, something that cannot be explained. Something that cannot come down to the individual or a species, or even one shining blue planet in a sea of stars.
This is why I cannot choose a religion. Things just seem more complex than... Us.
Scientists believe from experience that God doesn't exist and they are dumb-founded by the number of religious people... They are just trying to show them what they believe is the "right" path.
Bla
Sience actually has basic evidence that their "theories" are right. Religion only has a thick goddamn book full of fairy tales, the people who wrote it MUST have been somewhat more or less high when they wrote / made up their tales.
There's no evidence for Jesus existance, exept for a sheet which might just be a bunch of dots that we imagine to be Jesus. And there's no evidence for Moses splitting that ocean! There's no evidence for anything!
And yeah, then there's these rules that is in that damned book.
No masturbation: Geez, masturbation is a natural behaviour, plus masturbation makes you less stressed.
Homosexuals should be killed: Wow, in a book where a commandment says: You shall not kill? This book makes alot of sence! And Homosexuality is also a natural behaviour, you may choose it, you may be born gay, but it's still natural! If Homosexuality weren't natural, there would not be any homosexual people at the first time.
Abortion: I agree that it's not really right when you're over 18-20 but still, if a 13 year old is raped, should she have the baby? Should she have her life ruined? Should she throw her life away because of a pedophile's satisfaction?!
I still believe that there may exist a god figure, though. And i do also believe that he's not bound to ANY man made religion as Christianity or Islam or any religion on this very earth!
And i don't believe he hate gays, and i don't believe he hate masturbation, i believe you religious people should start waking up to the reality someday!

Actually, all the evidence is based off of fundamental postulates. There are an infinite ways of interpreting anything. However, in this day in age, seeing the believing. We cannot assume anything without looking at a diagram and it's properties.
So let me ask again, why does matter exist?
It's an 'improper' question. Science is incapable of giving such an answer because there is no logical rationale as two why anything is in its state.

I don't want to put my own beliefs into the conversation. I'm arguing the fact that these types of arguments are pointless. You can have faith upon two beliefs. And, an angel(or w/e) is as tangible to a disciple as a chemical reaction is tangible to a chemist.
Relatively, there is no fact.

You're, for the most part, right.
The bible isn't ment to be taken literally; it's not fact. All it is is a bunch of stories that tell the reader the way that God wants you to act. It may be just "fairy tales", but it's "fairy tales" with a message.
Now, I'm a Cristian and I have been all my life. I think of the stories in the bible are ways for the God that I believe in to convay to his/her people the way that he/she wants us to act. And that is to love people.
And I don't see why we have to agrue about the bible becuase it's not meant to be taken word for word. And I fear that people are completely overlooking that message and reading it as "gays are going to hell' and "science is complete bullshit". It's not meant to be read that way.
Now, evolution is a proven law. But who says that there isn't a god behind it all? No one can proove that there isn't a god because faith can't be proven. If you wanted to, you could say and believe that a giant dog with 5 head created the universe and no one could tell you that you were wrong because they can't proove it.
So everyone, both Cristians and Atheists need to stop arguing about to theories that most definately could coexist.
This whole debate is stupid. I'm not going to feel foolish if I end up in the situation where I have to face god for not believing. I made my choice beforehand and will simply have to accept the consequences of such an action.
Religion and God has always been twisted by theologists and churchmen to fit their needs at the time. Atheism is a growing and preferable alternative to a belief based solely on faith and lies. It's really hard to be "hating on God" when God doesn't exist.

I think this is why people generally don't like atheists.
