I believe N. Korea is started making nuclear weapons just so it could be one of the "cool" nations. It just wanted to be regarded as a major power. I haven't researched this topic much, however, and as such won't pass any more judgement than that.

I don't trust the North Koreans one tiny bit.
They might just pretend to comply and begin to disarm their nuclear programs, then start to receive aid in the process.
Then when they decide to turn into belligerent dickheads again, they can just restart their nuke program, and have loads of already accumulated aid to assist them.
This happened during the Clinton Administration in case any of you don't know!!!!
The Clinton Admin gave the North Koreans all sorts of nuclear technology, equipment for enriching uranium, conventional fuels, and other aide in return from a weak promise from North Korea that they would use it for electricity-generating purposes only.
Then it turns out, the momeny the North korean got the chance, they kicked UN inspectors out and started developing nuclear bombs with the technology that Clinton gave to them.
So I bet North Korea is just trying to get something out of the US again, only to disobey their own agreements and exploit they aide they received while lying about their true intentions.

Yeah you're right! We need to pull out of S. Korea and allow Kim Jong-Il to live in peace, I mean the US has nukes so why can't a Korean? I'm sure the guy will play real nice with them! I mean its not like:
1) He keeps the country on a war footing and believing that the S. Korean suffer under US imperial rule with a much lower standard of living.
2) He has used famine to kill 1-3 million of his people, often times the famine victims could've been helped but were denied aid due to political reasons.
3) Runs death camps comparable to what the Nazis did in WWII.
4) In an effort to maintain and extend his life he has "Joy Brigades" made up of girls as young as 12, and he often engages in bizarre sexual intercourse with them.
I mean he's nothing like Bush...he's just misunderstood while Bush is the devil.

i dont know if they really will do that, but even if they didnt, we still shouldnt go to war with them. they are just another thorn on our sides. maybe a bigger thorn then iraq.

I hope that North Korea will finally disarm itself of its nuclear weapons program. Though as history tells, they seem to always go back on their promises and defies the will of the international community and revamps its nuclear program again. I myself am not American(from Canada) but I would see some justification in US-led military action against North Korea if they continuously defie the will of the UN Security Council. The only problem in my personal opinion is that Communist China and Russia do not want military action on North Korea for NK is a "buffer" state for them. Its not within their security interests to have an American friendly state on their borders with American troops stationed in a unified Korea. I still see to a lesser extent a continuing Cold War Era mentality coming out of the political and military power structures in Bejing and Moscow in their policy making.

You're an idiot. If we did that we would no longer have deterrent for others nations to either not use their own nuclear arsenal or invade nations without a nuclear backlash. Infact, nukes were the sole reason WW3 didn't breakout during the Cold War.

What are you talking about? If that were the case we'd be at war with them right now. In a full-on ground assault, N. Korea would be completely obliterated in a matter of days. We have more men and much much much better military technology.
Sooner or later N. Korea will go to war, most likely with us. I say we go and get it out of the way. Although perhaps, if Bush is truly as evil as conspiracy theorists make him out to be, he could fake a North Korean nuclear attack on, say, San Francisco, and then go to war with North Korea, thus letting him pull out of Iraq, and then become a hero for destroying a rogue nuclear power.
Please don't go to war right now. I was just getting around to liking the idea of not having a draft.
