Cool, we got a really dedicated scout right here, and he looks like a good poster, too. Well, I'm glad you made the Boy Scout Lounge your first post here, and it looks like you'll be making many more.
And to help you a little bit, ask for a signature pic right here, and if you're having a hard time thinking of a signature (besides adding a link to this club), go here and they'll think of one for you. To add it, just go to your account options and click on Signature or Signature Picture, depending on which you want to edit.
Have fun

Yeah my troop always goes to summer camp to build up on merit badges. The one we go to also has a special program to help advance people into 2nd and 1rst class. We sometimes refer to the camp as a merit badge factory. haha

Yeah, except we can only get like 5 merit badges, unless you spend like extra hour a day for the week during lunch or after dinner when you just want to shoot stuff or swim. It's hard, because I want some Eagle required, but they all need so much work before actually going to summer camp and are scheduled almost at the same time that it's hard to do a lot of them during the year.

not really, my SPL has over 50 and he still has a pretty normal social life, plus he's getting his eagle like, next week. (in fact, at the same court of honor that I'm getting my life rank at, yay!)
I will be away this weekend at the Appalachian Trail, which is, for those of you who don't know a huge trail that runs along on the Appalachia mountains, so it's a very challenging hike, but really fun (for those of us who like that sort of thing)

Nice. Usually kids get 4-5 at the camp. I was an overachiever and got 7 (the most in my troop for that year).
I actually pretty much hate all required ones since they aren't too much fun (other than first aid, and camping). I have to do Personal MAnagement and Personal Fitness over the summer also. This is going to be a busy summer. I'm going to camp, getting two jobs, a car, and a week of vacation on top of the multiple merit badges I have to get.

umm, it's somewhere on the georgia part, I'm not really sure exactly where we're going, but I know it's not where one of the guys wanted to go, which was blood mountain, the highest peak on this part of the AT

I, BBM, will do my best: To post with intelligence and cohesion to the subject; To obey the Newgrounds BBS rules at all times while within this lounge; and To keep myself witty, smart and funny.
Yadda yadda yadda. I'm an explorer scout in 30th Reigate, going to leave at the end of this year cos i'll be 18, but oh well, i may stay active in my network. Had a flick through the thread and got completely confused by various badges and merits that you guys have... it's a lot less... organised in the UK.

Don't you guys have something like a Venture Crew? If not, try to get one started. No merit badges, just fun shit like mountain climbing and skiing.

Yes yes. Scouts originally was like a precursor to the military for those young ones who were interested and yes it promoted being helpful and all that stuff.
America, being the way it is, had to make a bunch of safety regulations and rules resulting from lawsuits and other things that were caused by past leaders, scouts, and parents to make it more of a alternative for kids to take karate.
yes, most of the younger scouts choose from scouts and karate. sadly, a lot take karate cuz they feel they need to defend themselves

Because their mommies say the big bad stranger will come and get them, so that's why the kid has a leash on, an 8 foot steel fence around the yard, and one of those damn signaling devices that when the kid get more than 25 feet away, it goes off.

Yeah, well, I'm in explorer scouts (15-18) and we don't do badges much, and when I hit 18 I'll join our scout network, which is just the meet up down the pub hey lets go bowling/abseiling/whatever that = venture scouts.

Haha, the pub. I wish our scouting was that lenient. Not even the adults are allowed to smoke cigars that scare the bugs away anymore.

Really? Cause I'm supposed to be the first person with the Cigar Affectionato (spell?) merit badge. It was created by my old troop-leader-now-chaplain because every camping trip he would teach me about his cigars he brought along and all the paraphernalia that goes along with them. Your troop seems way too strict.

Actually, if my leaders are right, it's official BSA rules, just like the stupid hand axe use one. They've been making a lot of new rules lately. Not all of the troops know about them though, but if you went to an official BSA event, we'd all probably be breaking a shit load of rules.

What's your best memory from scouts?
My best memory is when we last autumn played Steal the flag for 24 hours. It was great, we sneaked around in the woods avoiding others and searching for their flag. We surprise attacked to other team's camp at like 3 am, and finally found the flag.

My leaders don't really care about the rules, beside the major safety ones, like having an axe yard and using the buddy system. Other than that, as long as no one gets hurt really bad, we can do just about anything we want. As long as it's before 11 PM.

It's got to be my first camp out. Muddy as hell out there. The camp master had taken out all of the grass and what not, then it rained the day before we got there. Almost lost a shoe. But we played football with the kids who were then my age now for hours. Then after a nice dinner, we played man hunt. It was an alright game; the place, outside of the campsites, was like a soccer field. But it was my first time ever playing, so it was fun. Then we had this huge camp fire. It was easily 3 feet tall with the wood, and about a foot of dirt and ash underneath.

Best memory from scouts?
Bivvying in south wales last summer. Our leaders dumped us off in the middle of nowhere at 9am, we had to find our way back to the camp. There we did a bunch of tasks (ie the 'Die Hard' challenge [3 litre bottle + 5 litre bottle, get 3 litres]) to win equipment and food for the rest of the day, where we had to find and build a suitable shelter. There were ~8 in our group, and we had our karrimats, sleeping bags, stuff we'd won in the early afternoon and the stuff we'd taken on the hike, but nothing else. We found a fallen forked tree to drape our tarpaulins over, cooked a simple stew for supper, and stayed up all night because we were too busy talking, and then the sun came up on our south facing bivvy entrance and we couldn't get to sleep at all.

My troop does a "Survivor Day" (that's what we call it) were we're through in a field, or the woods or wherever, and we do challenges about eating gross food and whatnot or so I've heard. I personally haven't been to one, but I heard they're great.
Funny story I was told. A friend of one of the Scouts on the trip went, just for fun and to check out Scouts. So, it was August, and like 95 degrees out. No one knew that there was a lake there, but they brought shorts, so they just went in those. So after every one is done swimming, they take their shorts off to let them dry. They're just hanging out in their boxers, and the friend pops one, if you know what I mean. Wet boxers aren't the best to wear when you got one, if you know what I mean.

Man, I haven't been doing much in Scouts lately. Mostly because I'm over 18 now, but also work. My first Scoutmaster looked like one of the guys from ZZ Top. Speaking of property damage, one time we had to break into a cabin that we were using for the weekend because the ranger forgot to leave the key.

Probably when I got smacked in the head with a rock. Me and a few other kids were messin around, and we found this small hill that looked like a short dirt cliff. So, the other guys started grabbing loose clumps of grass near the top and throwing them at me. I run to the bottom, turn around, and get smacked right in the middle of the forehead with a rock. It hurt. But it was hilarious.

mine was when we did a jackass type thing we were at our sponsering church and it was a meeting and me being the SPL decided that we all play outside so there is this hill (this was after an ice storm we had in va this passed year) thats covered in ice right? so my freind josh comes up w/this idea where we put trashcan lids underneth the trashcans and we'd climb into the trashcans and one person (or more) would push us as hard as they can to give us the most speed and i was the first to go down so imagin this...its cold like 13 degrees farenhight (spelling) and its dark about 9:30 w/one street light in the corner of the field your going down a hill at about 15-20 mph and you suddenly hit the tree at the bottom but you dont fall over or out you just keep going then your spinning at peobebly 3-4 rps and you et dizzy then you bounce off a fence and fall over and hit your body on the gound on the hard ice it is the greatest moment in my lie i did it 13 more times lol we had even some of the adult leaders join in on the fun it was hilarious cuse they all fell over :D. that was one of my favorites who else here would do that?

You mean not use punctuation, or what I could gather from the post about trashcan sledding? Because I would do that trashcan sledding thing. I do crazy stuff in the Scouts.
I once did a snow angel in my underwear, then half an hour later I did push-ups ass naked. It was like 2 in the morning, so no adults could see, and everyone just wanted to make sure they saw movement. But as I'm running back because I can't feel my toes, so fags not only shine a flashlight on me, but they also lock the door for a couple minutes before being coaxed to open it up.

I got my board of review and scout master conference for my bronze palm. I'll hopefully be getting it next week during the meeting. ^^
They want me to work on more badges, but man, I've been so busy with school, work, and *ahem* other thing, that I probably can't get 5 more badges in a timely fashion. If had this summer free, then I could have, but I'm take a college course, so I can't. =/
They expect so much of me...

As am I. I'm expecting you to deposit for me over the weekend. I'm going to the air force base around here to get the aviation merit badge. Seems like it would be fun. go in some simulators, learn about some planes, and get a merit badge that it's almost impossible to get without a trip like this.

Sorry about not posting in forever. I'm taking a lifeguarding course, which not only is tiring, bu takes up about 4 hours out of my day. Plus my dad wants me to help him re-mulch the many gardens around my house, which is also very tiring. Add that to homework, school and friends and I'm not on until 45 minutes before I leave for a camping trip.
So, how's life?
