DAG, YO.

When too many people agree with a concept, a "mob mentality" ensues. People begin to "one-up" each other on how much in agreeance to a topic they can be. A perfect example is communism. It began with "it sucks being poor" which led to "the rich should give the poor money" to "rich people are bastards for not giving the poor money" to "kill all the rich bastards."

If someone had spoken up for the rich from the first, none of that would have happened. Speaking up for the rich would have made someone very unpopular in that mob, but because noone spoke up, a movement began to take all the money from the rich and kill them if they refused. That is the purpose of the DAG (Devil's Advocacy Group). To take up for unpopular causes to help create moderation and debate, thus creating more just and logical conclusions.

That why were called DEVIL's advocates. You dont have to disagree with people who are right, you just have to give them enough oppostion to solidify their beliefs. The same rules of respect and ettiquette that are followed by the PC apply to the DAG.

yeah, but this is a debate forum according to the PC right? If noone disagrees, its not a debate. If you dont want to debate you dont have to, but you also wont achieve anything either. The DAG is supposed to make the dialogues in Politics more productive, and come up with moderate ideas that everyone can agree to. When youre opposition is proven right, congratulate them, and move to the next topic. If they are proven wrong, then help them toward a more truthful view. The DAG is not for everyone, just people who like debate and dont mind being proven wrong as long as it is done with logic.

I've got the 'Devil's Advocate' part...but not the 'g' part.

I love people who play Devil's Advocate. That is...if they do it in a way that's respectful an courteous. IE....I don't play with devil's advocates that say, 'You're a stupid bitch, you're wrong,' to try to get facts from me.

I still don't see the point. The DAG will go around provoking people to defend their ideas? Why do we need a group for that. I think everyone in the PC does that already when we respond to peoples post. It sounds like the DAG is supposed to be a group of people with the same ideas, while the PC is a group of people with all diffrent opinions some who don't ever agree. I don't ever agree with BumCheeky .....EVER but we are both part of PC...well I'm not sure if he is in PC but besides that. DAG is redundant and just sounds like a squad of Goons going around making trouble. Goon Squad.

In order to [play the devils advocate you HAVE to be able to argue a given point ( statements which can be justified) from BOTH SIDES of the argument and be UNEMOTIONAL when argueing the point. From what I have seen since ive been LURKING for the past year+ very few people here are capable of that. Most of the time people make statements based on emotionalism or very skewed facts.

I think that sometimes playing Devils Advocate is OK, even beneficial in some cases, but to start a club is not.

Playing Devils Advocate can be OK, even beneficial sometimes. Starting a crew is just dumb.
