Luis didn't ask everyone to say 'I am going to participate this year!' He's asking for questions, comments, and opinions on the Sketchbook for this year. He's going to ask for names and shit later. If you have any comments, suggestions, or ways to make the sketchbook better this year, then bring them on. But we don't need 25 pages of "I'm in!!!!!"

i know that a lot of us have been asking if anyone can join so that when the page for joining comes up were not asking onn there but yeah some people have just been saying "im in!"
As John said.. please dont post saying you're in. It isnt really started yet. I'm just surveying the scene of ways to do it this year. lulu.com is a pretty neat idea.. thanks mnwfi... ive been talking to a few binders today and it looks like itd be around 50 bucks to bind 50 pieces of original art into a book which isnt bad. The only thing that would pose a problem is paper that is too thick because in a one inch thick book its going to be very tough to turn the pages and in the last sketchbook tour i overcounted the pages and i had a really hard time finding a binding that could accomidate the thickness of the entries.
I may setup mailing stations as suggested by John. Was definately a mess last year. And to ShirtTurtle, I got Adams entry and he lives in Australia.. location doesnt really matter as long as you want to fit the bill to send it back.
If you are skeptical or unsure you want to do it then you're missin out, its a really cool thing. and im not just saying that to entice anyone.. frankly id be happier if you didnt join its one less paper to mail out :P
Anyway SUGGESTIONS ONLY PLEASE. JOIN LATER.

Not sure if this is something you want to be thinking about right now, but for the flash submission, I really liked the last one, but one suggestions is a way to play the different pages in a slide show with music.
Being able to go at your own pace is good, but I mean just as an option.
Just a thought.
Hey Luis!
1.) If you DO decide to do this again, I want in this time.
I have an idea.
If you DO do this again, after its done, it'd be neat if for each page of the sketchbook, a song played of the author's choosing.
Wouldn't that be nifty?
Although the music would have to be rather compressed so the SWF wouldnt be 340000 Jiggabytes.
I'm totally in this time, I was too late last year. Do I pm you the information that you need?

Oh shit, sorry about that. I just read the title then posted before I read the rest of it..
+ sorry for double post

Didn't have any problem with the actual sketchbook last year, but I didn't like the fact that the Flash version had everything at 1/2 size or less. I know it was a browser/filesize restraint, but it'd be nice to see the pages at actual size this year.
Slide show=Bad idea IMO
I like the setup of last years, and a slideshow isn't good because it could be too quick or too long and I'd rather be able to skip through the ones I've already seen.
I like Mogly's idea, it's unique and easy to do while representing other countries. You could even cover one side with the paper of your choice to draw on.
It could be a bit of a problem with the binding and that but I do believe all post cards are the same size but I could be wrong.
What you might consider doing is an oversized sheet with with sizable margins if you are going to do a standard book bind (with hard spine), that way when you get to the middle, the flex from the inside pages doesn't cover up the art. From what you're describing though, I'd recomend a coil bind. Then every page can can be layed flat.

It was coil bound last year, it turned out fine but I definately ran into issues with the book just being too thick. Being the good simaritan that i was i gave out more pages than there were in the original coil bound sketchbook i took apart. Now in theory it didnt sound like a bad idea until i started to put it together and realized that the book went from being 3/4's of an inch thick to almost 2inches. The coil binding obviously wasnt built for that sort of abuse so it did work out but its ghetto and itll always drive me insane.
RE: Denvish
I agree, the sizing was an issue with the online version. I definately will not be making the book with the same size paper as last year. I had to scan shit two times per entry to get it all to fit. It was paaaaainful. I was thinking of making this next sketchbook a little more compact and intimate. Specially if I end up mass printing it. I dunno.
Also to the person that commented why cant i just tell people what kind of paper to buy rather than mailing it myself, theres a couple reasons. Number one, everyone lives in different parts of the world and its unlikely i'll find a paper that everyone has access to, I dont want to build a sketchbook with papers of different weight and color (believe it or not white comes in many different shades of white even when they are labeled as 'white')
Secondly, I want some sense of control over the project. I dont want anyone just inviting themselves in. I like to be able to send it out to people and sort of feel good about who i am sending it to.

Anyway SUGGESTIONS
Like I suggested last year, we send the pages to you!
More convenient and easier. If you are still all for the whole "one book" thing, for us who don't have permanant addresses or have limited computer usage it would be easier.
But that's my two cents. Being in Australia, that's like 1 cent U.S.

I would, i mean it would sort out who's serious about wanting to be in it and who isnt.

There were 61 entries last year, at $5 that's $350 and the grand total cost was $203. I think paying for the postage it takes to send the page to you would be better, it would be more reasonable for price and would also show who's committed.
if you scan the pages once you have them we could scan them then e-mail it if we did that you wouldnt even have to send stuff out

*$305 :)
If Luis is looking to get it bound and such, I ASSUME he's looking to get it published? If that's the case, it would be unfair for him to shoulder the fiscal burden.

But still the idea of collecting the pages each has personally cummed on must remain.
I'm pleased to see the return of the NG Sketchbook tour.
I liked the brown paper last year. The textured sheet was much less oppressive than a plain white page would have been, and it allowed us to try and use the texture as a background (which helped me out a lot)
I wonder if (assuming too many people want to take part) the people who didn't take part last year will have the advantage over those that did in terms of getting a sheet? I guess thats up to Luis.
I'd love to draw another page, I was really pleased with my efforts last time, and it was awesome to be showcased amongst people like Adam Philips!

Just thinking out loud here:
I'm one of those people with a printer/scanner combo, so wouldn't it be easier if the people who are able to, just scanned in their drawing and emailed it to Luis? It would cut down on costs and paperwork...
...
Scanning isn't much good. Last thing we need are photocopies for a scrapbook.
Hi there!

Well I wouldn't dismiss it so quick. It would be good for a neater book printing on quality photopaper. It could also be standardly binded. Although personally a scrapbook is better as it'd feel mashed together.
I see why scanning+emailing would make the scrapbook less special as it wouldn't have the 'real' pictures, but its an option if we need it. It reduces costs and work, and theres no chance of entries getting lost or damaged in the mail. Luis wouldnt even need to send paper out, we just draw on our own. But I guess that kind of defeats the object.
On a completely unrelated subject, does Luis get banned for posting a non-flash-related topic in the Flash forum..?

I'll think about joining when the time comes anyway suggestions...
can't really think of any besides that on the flash there could be easier navigation like an author list instead of pressing next all the time. That's it really. I'll help anyway I can.
everyone could throw in a toonie or a couple collar bills
I've been waiting for this. I have one question about my drawing though, i don't have anything drawn yet or i would post this in art. It involves a person sitting in a chair, should i start drawing the chair then the person or the other way around? I think it might be better drawing the person then chair.
Whoop Whoop
I am 100% down for the 2007 sketchbook tour. The last one was so much fun, I know this one will kick it up even more.
Do we send you our contact information, or do you still have mine from last round? PM if you need it again, because it's unlikely I'll be following this thread to closely.

would it be to constricting to put a theme on the book? something very generel but will somehow connect all the drawings as one. that would be pretty cool i think.
