I hate people who blam things for no good reason. I meant I've noticed most members have more blams than saves. I'm like one of those rare members who have more saves than blams and I think people vote low purely because they think it's "cool". Here's a reality check, since when was showing off being nasty to someone on the net was considered cool? Last time I checked that was being a nerd trying to look cool. These people I see as people who'd go "OMG!!!! Look at me, I was mean to someone I don't even know, how cool is that!?!?!?!?". At least in most submissions people know how to use flash and it's not the most simple thing ever, and most blammers don't even know how to which is just sad.

Good to see Wade and Tom stepping in for the users, nice work guys!

Sorry, I'm from the suburbs of Philly, we try not to be rude.

I lived in the suburbs of Philly (Ft. Washington, Ambler area) for 4 years, and... people in general are pretty rude in Montogomery County, PA.

But then, I was used to the politeness of Houston, TX, and Kobe, Japan, when I moved to Pennsylvania, and both of those places are well over the average politeness level, so my perceptions aren't exactly on the level. #;-}>

Hello Captain Obvious! of course people from Montgomery County suck. Hell, no matter where you live, you have to have sucked sometime! Whether it be chocolate, your thumb when you were little, an ice cream or whatever, every single person has sucked at least once in their lifetime.

voting 5s and 0s is the only way to make ratings jump, if no one was voting in extremes every score would be about 2.5-3.0. That seems to the be that average of survivors now, so what's the problem? Over the last month or two i racked up about 300 saves when i used to blam 90% of stuff. But i don't think you guys would like it if we let everything in.

ATTENTION ALL PORTAL USERS
--------------------------
I joined Newgrounds originally in 2000 under the alias icetoniczero. I had found the portal to a great place where people judge on skill as artists.
Now however, it is almost three years later and I have found that people are judging too lighty. What happened to you Wade and Tom? You used to be all about blamming crap. Now you are telling us not to vote 0. And just now I head not to vote 1.
YOU ARE VOTING TOO LIGHTY. THERE IS CRAP ALL OVER THE PORTAL BECAUSE YOU ARE THREATENING PEOPLE FOR BLAMMING!
You have to solve this problem. There are almost 200 entries per day, and more than half are kept. Half of those, are complete crap that does not deserve a score at all.
This new system of Under Judgement just prevents the portal from being run over with crap made by newbs.
Also, the top 50 has drastically changed. I remember the top score used to be 3.91
Now it is like 4.5
You people are judging too lightly. You new assholes and old assholes alike are saying that 5 means you like it. NO!
5 means it is perfect in every possible way! No flash movie can be perfect, for if there was, the portal would no longer exist.
-----------------------
I was not, and still am not, actively involved in the Portal, but it is my belief that this site has gone the way of the spiny-turtle. You are being impressed by retarded little animals bouncing on some naked chick talking about shoving EGGPLANTS UP THEIR ASS! GET SOME SELF-RESPECT PEOPLE!
Flash was created to entertain, not to create children who think they are adults. You think this stupid ass A rating is going to stop a freaking 12-year old from watching!? It's just like the game industry. They RECCOMEND it just so legally they can't be sued, but they never enforce it.
If it's rated A, it should be only watched by adults. Makes sense doesnt it?
----------------------
In conclusion:
What happened to you Newgrounds? You used to be cool...

Ok, I can kind of understand the voting 0 thing, but you have to be careful when voting 1? I think it's also a problem that everyone rates so high. It seems like every week there is a new movie listed # one on the "Top 50 of All Time" List. That means all the classics are getting knocked off because of all the 5's coming in.

Listen, Wade says that you have to vote 2 on a movie if it put effort into it but it wasn't your cup of tea. Don't like it?

How would you like it if you put tons and tons of effort in a movie, and it got blammed, because some of the people vote 0 because they didn't like the plot or something mild like that? On the other hand, if they voted 2 like they were supposed to, your good work with one little tiny bad part would stay on the portal. You should do the same to others.

Yeah the Final Task, one of the best classics in NG history is now ranked 126. That can't be, and since it was not submitted in this new age of "constructive" voting it will never be in the top 50 again.

Here's what bugs me about this: 'crappy' is a very relative term. I voted 1 on a movie that looked great but was only about 5 seconds long. As far as I'm concerned, that's a movie that didn't take much effort. You could probably draw a crappy stick figure movie using images from Paint that lasted 2 minutes and put in more effort. And I'd blam that, too.
Either way, I'm just going to give Tom and Wade the benefit of the doubt and not complain unless my account actually gets banned.

It seems a little strange to me that such guidelines exist in regards to voting. If one person blams an animation, regardless of how good it is, wouldn't the honest votes prevent its deletion from the website? Isn't that the reason for having a voting system in the first place, so that a single person can't be responsible for deleting a quality animation?

I admit, I vote harshly on animations I don't like. I also vote very high on ones that I do. There is going to be a trend towards "dark" voting on entries under judgement simply because there is so much more poor work being submitted there. Unfortunately, a lot more crap gets submitted than gems, so I don't see why I, or anybody else for that matter, should be punished for trying to thin the herd.

Also, I agree with the other user who brought up the point about displaying someone's blam statistics. If its bad to participate in blamming, then why is it public knowledge? Why is it something that someone can flaunt?

Besides, this very website discusses negative voting on its description of auras: "Dark: A user with a dark aura has a tendency to vote low on movies. Keep in mind, they don't have a dark aura because they vote low on bad movies - they have a dark aura because they vote low on movies that most other people find good. Users like this are either very critical or just plain mean and bitter. There is a lot of crap in the Portal that gets high marks, so just because someone has a dark aura doesn't necessarily mean they are an asshole. Heck, they might be helping clean out the crap."

If I am one of these Naughty Voters, then there are probably quite a few others out there like me, and I think we deserve the benefit of the doubt rather than a deleted account. At the very least, we deserve a personal notification, (a warning, a reminder of the voting guidelines), in our email accounts before we kicked off the website.

a lot of you guys are over-reacting. what wade is doing is warning the people who do nothing but blam everything. he's not telling you to change the way you vote completely, just give the score you think it deserves. there are people bitchin and moanin about facism and crap, well if you dont like it dont come back to NG. those are my two cents.

WHAT WADE WANTS: People who vote 0 on all the entries.
That is all this is about, not portal quality or bandwith old crap takes.

Poor Wade.

I have to agree. I've only recently even been looking into the new entries section of the portal, and I've got to admit that much of the new entries are simply thoroughly un-enjoyable mess. Many show little to no effort or creativity and often the author will admit to that. If an entry is garbage, in my opinion, you're saying I must give it a two or greater until it has an average review score, then I am allowed to vote as I actually feel? This seems to go against my original understanding of the concept, but I'll play by the rules, no problem.

I usually vote fairly high anyway...

I'm curious about one thing though. Let's say that a lot of really crappy movies do make it into the Portal and someone blams them all. Who's the judge of whether or not something's totally crappy? Do you watch the submissions yourself and determine if the guy voted fairly or not? Or is there some other system you have for determining whether or not someone gets all their blam/protect points erased because they vote 0 too much?

ALERT

Commie Wade is back trying to make all the portal entries be 3.5. Why can't you people just listen and vote 3.5 on everything just like me. Its what wade wants, just flippin DO IT! We don't care if there is a golden aura emmitting from you screen when a movie plays, or your D-drive opens up to take a crap on your mouse hand as soon as you "click to play" It gets a 3.5 anywade.

I don't know what the deal is with Tom and Wade for they are being really pushy about this matter. Let the people vote the way they want to. If you guys don't like it then discontinue the voting system end of story. Well it ain't like you guys will listen anyway.
