Myth No. 7

Stupid Brits like to say:

"Americans are lazy"

WRONG!

Americans work much more than British people.

The Average American works a 46-hour long work week.

The Average work week among UK citizens is 36.8 hours when you find the average between British males and British females found here .

It seems that since Americans are so lazy, Brits must be more so.

There goes another myth...

The funny thing is, you're so fucking pathetic you have to completely ignore the actual issues and just do the typical strategy of spouting out random, meaningless jabs that have no effect on reality.

Oh and by the way, unlike in the shitty British education system, Americans learn both the metric and imperial system. The Metric System is used just as much as the Imperial System in the US. The imperial system is used as a sort of antiquated, ceremonial thing for the sake of tradition.

Which, coincidentally is sort of similar to how even now, in the 21st century, Britain still has a Queen and a Royal family, an antiquated form of government.

How fucking pathetic is that? How can you make a jab at the US for using an obsolete form of measurement at the national when Britain still has a fucking Queen as the head of state?

Get a grip on reality, you pathetic, delusional, disgruntled child in denial of reality.

I have had enough of these "America vs Britain" topics. I don't hate americans or america and i don't stereotype them as being fat and lazy and uneducated so stop saying all british people think that, infact i don't know anyone who hates american people.

ehm, news flash, in britain, we DO learn both.

You aren't taught to be proficient in both of them, you only learn the imperial system as a sort of history lesson.

I bet you can't tell me how many millimeters are in an inch, foot, and yard off the top of your head. I bent you can't tell me what the formula for converting miles to kilometers is off the top of your head.

I bet you can't list the conversion formula for velocity of m/s (meters per second) to ft/s (feet per second). But I wouldn't expect to even have a grasp of this, seeing as 90% of your population never even reaches Calculus. And don't just go look it up on the internet, the point is that you know damn well you can't recall these things, because you were never taught them extensively.

These are all things that Americans learn in our superior education system that misguided Brits like to denigrate to salvage their pride and uphold their irrational anti-US bias based on myths and lies.

I'm going to use this thread as reference every time I see any Brit claim that Americans are dumb, because if you look at the facts, it seems that by comparison, Brits are dumb, and Americans are actually among the most educated in the world.

And all those illiteracy figures for adults are mostly from a distant past, one where we were still rationing things ten years after the war and the Cold War didn't help either. WWII didn't have the same effect on your country as it did ours. I think those figures will be changing over the next ten years.

Um, sorry to break it to you buddy...

But the British literacy rates that I showed you is based on a study from 2003, and was deemed to be accurate enough to depict the country as it is today (literacy rates don't fluctuate very much in 3-4 years). It was included in THIS WEEK's Economist magazine, which is a very respected, very professional, non-partisan magazine published IN BRITAIN but contributed to by knowledgeable economic thinkers from around the world.

If it was based on studies that weren't applicable today, then it wouldn't have been included. The segment of your population that was alive during WWII is too small to sway the result also, so don't use that maneuver.

Britain's literacy rate is bad, very bad. Theres no way around it.

But the point I made to wwyyzzzrrd, if you missed it, is that it is silly for Brits to criticize the US for using the imperial system, an antiquated system of measurement, when Britain uses an antiquated system of GOVERNMENT.

We live in the 21st century and Britain is a self-proclaimed democracy, its time to get rid of the fucking royal family.

Think about how horrible that is! Britain is land where the democratic ideas are supposed to erase class-systems and elites and create equal opportunity, but in the meantime you have a Royal family that lives in luxury...

Kind of hypocritical don't you think?

The main reason we have a monarchy is so that we can be different from other countries and also the reason they are still there is because they make a good tourist attraction which brings in good money to our economy. Also you using stereotypical views like when you told the Australian that they use stupid words but I can say the same about you by using phrases like"Hidey y'all" Please may you cut out the racism.

A UN report on human development

Page 258, we are ranked just 5 places below you. I bet that survey of literacy you read was done in an inner city area or something, where the quality of education is admittedly very poor, but then the same could be said of American inner cities.

Thats awful. That would be like the US having an Emperor in order to have economic benefits.

Also you using stereotypical views like when you told the Australian that they use stupid words

Um, he was the one that criticized Americans for creating a different dialect with different spelling. Therefore I identified the fact that by saying that, he was incredibly hypocritical because the same can be said about Australia, and much more justifiably so. The Australian dialect has butchered the English language much more than the American dialect, which is the most used dialect of English in the world.

but I can say the same about you by using phrases like"Hidey y'all"

Texas... 1/20th of the US population... And even then, the whole "howdy y'all" thing is blown out of proportion. "Howdy" is actually a word taken from British English that has been around for quite some time.

And if you notice, such abbreviated words like "y'all" have their roots in British English as well. Such as "a bag O' wheat" which is a shortened form of "a bag of wheat".

Please may you cut out the racism.

Its not racism, its just facts about a country, organized in a way to reeducated a group of misguided Brits who frequent NG and constantly parade their ignorance of reality regarding the US.

Err...yes I can, as we are taught to use Imperial as well.

1 inch = 2.54cm
1 foot = 30cm (1 average length ruler)
1 yard = 3 feet = 90cm (3 average length rulers)

The Economist magazine is one of the most trusted, respected, and dynamic sources of information you can get. Some Americans contribute, but the 14-page special that I referenced was written by an Brit.

But the HDI isn't calculated on literacy alone, its a mixture of literacy, life expectancy, education, and quality of life.

And usually the HDI favors countries who have Universal Healthcare like the UK has, and this gives a disproportionate advantage over countries with Private Healthcare. The fact that the US has a higher score on the HDI, yet doesn't have a Universal Healthcare system, well that speaks louder than words to the detriment of Brits who think their system and country in general is superior.

I bet that survey of literacy you read was done in an inner city area or something, where the quality of education is admittedly very poor, but then the same could be said of American inner cities.

You're in denial.

They don't just take results of isolated studies. The study was the result of comprehensive research, and the British government itself even released similar statistics about literacy in the UK.

Are you so terrified of the truth, that you can't even accept it when its laid before your eyes?

Um I lived in the UK for 2 months. I witnessed Brits, I witnessed their behavior and their views. Stereotypes are when people accept things as fact without experiencing it first hand.

I however HAVE experienced British people, in their own country first hand.

I could dig up facts if I please to about America and belittle you like you have the highest rate of underaged pregnancies in the world

Underaged? I didn't know it was illegal to be pregnant for females...

You might mean teenage pregnancy?

Even then, I don't think thats true. So go ahead, "dig up" these supposed facts you have... I'm waiting anxiously.

and also the highest crime rate.

Highest amount of murders among developed nations (due to large population), not highest murder rate.

And CERTAINLY not highest crime rate.

And even then, if your country had the same racial make-up as the US does, and had 30 million illegal immigrants like the US does, I'm sure you'd have an equal crime problem.

And not to be racist, but it is a statistic fact that the higher rate in crime in the US is due to the high concentration of minorities that are more prone to crime than the white majority. Don't accuse me of racism, because this is a fact.

The crime rate among American whites is probably equal to British whites and same goes among other races.
