My god those are awesome. Details please?

Kubricks are cutesy Japanese designer toys that mock/pay homage to most things in pop culture, like movies (Sin City, X-Men, Batman), music (the Beatles!) and whatnot (Vice City, Metal Gear Solid, but also real life people like Ghandi and Mao). They can be found in most odd brick and brack game and toy stores these days, I was pretty surprised that they were sold in my country. Most figures are packed in small boxes of one, with a random figure in them unless noted otherwise on the box. They seem to release several new lines every year.

Regular figures cost around 5 quid while the slightly larger, such as the Maschienen Krieger cost around seven or eight quid in most stores.

Ah great, just what we need!

Mind if I join?

Not a huge fan, but I do like it.

I recently bought the book "Brothers Of The Snake" of Warhammer 40,000 by Dan. Which of his books are also about Space Marines?

If you count Horus Heresy Space Marines: both Horus Rising and Legion are. Alot of what Mr Abnett writes is Guard stuff like his Ghosts. :D

Oh and Welcome aboard mate, oh and tell me is Brothers of the Snake any good? I've been wanting to get that along with the reprint of Storm of Iron.

If looking for great books about Space Marines you ought to give Graham McNeill's Ultramarine novels a try, some of the best next to Brothers of the Snake and the overall Horus Heresy novel series.

Would you say another healthy choice would be the Soul Drinkers Omnibus and its sequel Lieutenant?

I still need to read Soul Drinker and the sequels but some fucker ruined the plot for me by haphazardly spoiling it in a discussion. But yes, I to find the story full of holes and whatnots. Much like the way the Space Wolves are now going I say that Soul Drinker is not one of BL's finest moments. I'd also steer clear of the Dawn of War novels unless you're really into flying librarians, horribly inconsistencies, lowbrow mysteries and thinly veiled the Eldar-fetish of the author.

What I do recommend is the following: Storm of Iron, Let the Galaxy Burn!, Lord of the Night and the Horus Heresy saga as far as marines are the issue.

But if I must nitpick on really good books, get Ravenor at the very least. The first book in the trilogy is paper bound delight not easily found elsewhere. The Eisenhorn trilogy found in a handy omnibus is also most certainly worth taking and I consider this along with the first Ravenor book Abnett's finest, forget about Gaunt and his whining Ghosts, get these books instead. The fantasy novel Deadly Cargo is also worth reading, if only for campy pirate action years before Pirates of the Caribbean arrived on the scene.

From what I heard and what I have been told the minis in the upcoming starter set will be of great detail, even though they are simple snap-fit models. The selection of models is made up of those that make for a great starter set and those that are great (and much needed) additions to existing armies of people, such as the plastic Death Koptas and the Dreadnought with multi-melta.

On a lesser note the upcoming rule revisions will be extreme for some and great for others.

Yea I read about how the DOW series of books is a little too.....how to put it.....ah: Jesus Miracle. Yes some of the situations are a little to far fetched but I'll read em anyways. Im still going to read the Soul Drinkers, though im debating on whether to buy it myself (because I love to have my own BL collection) or borrow my friends abused copy.

What I do recommend is the following: Storm of Iron, Let the Galaxy Burn!, Lord of the Night and the Horus Heresy saga as far as marines are the issue.

I cant wait to get Storm of Iron, I need to get Let the Galaxy Burn (I did read a few of the stories in it when I was waiting for a friend at Books-a-Million), Im still pondering on if I want to read Lord of the Night, and Im already collecting and reading Horus Heresy and cant wait to get the Ultramarines one "Battle for the Abyss", and then "Mechanicum" later in the year.

But if I must nitpick on really good books, get Ravenor at the very least. The first book in the trilogy is paper bound delight not easily found elsewhere. Ive read all the Eisenhorn and Ravenor, im probably gonna buy the Eisenhorn Omnibus when I get the money so I can read it again, and then get the Reavenor Omnibus whenever they combine the three novels. I'm sure you have your reasons against Abnetts Ghosts series, and I really am not sure about Fantasy yet. Ive never really gotten into it, but if I ever do I might read the Gotrek series first or something along those lines, seeing as Ive loved Dwarves ever since I read about Gimli in the LOTR series along with "The Hobbit".

Indeed, me and a freind of mine who is getting into orks have agreed that each of us will get the Starter set and give each other the opposite, he takes the Orks I get the Astartes, that way we can play the campaign with twice as many. (Not Including my own Swords of Faith Chapter)

On a lesser note the upcoming rule revisions will be extreme for some and great for others.

The only thing that I head about in the revisions that I have beef with is the Rending is being changed from hit to wound which isnt so good for my beautiful Assualt Cannon. :'(

Horus Heresy? I found them to be a step backward from the other ones I had at the time, the plot works fine but It just feels odd for me. The Soul drinkers books I would seriously recommend instead.

Deadly Cargo!? Sorry but I have to disagree with this one, it was boring and failed to engross me into it's plot. It felt a bit rushed for some reason as well, it was campy with pirates but it focused too much on attempted tension with the undead (Tomb Kings I'm sure) and it only really had one "Pirate judgement" moment. I did not like that book and I would not recommend it to anyone, I couldn't even finish it either.

Though the Ravenor books are very good, and so is the "Eisenhorn" Trilogy.

Thanks. Sorry it took me a while to reply, busy busy busy.

Brothers Of The Snake is an amazing read. Well worth the money. Possibly one of the best books I've read in the last 2 years or so. Really enjoyed it.
So the Ultramarines are the best lost to buy?

Try out some of the Guardsmen books like 15 hours, Rebel Winter, Desert Raiders, and Death World. I'd also highly suggest Ciaphas Cain, and if your up for it The Last Chancers.

As you lot ought to know by now, in two months we see a new 40k edition released. Here are some of the changes that are in:

# BS of 6 and higher made it in.
# Wound allocation by model is in (meaning special models may be lost early)
# Torrent of Fire is gone
# Intervening models (friend or foe) grant a 4+ cover save to the target unit
# There is no longer any consolidating into new squads in assault (only charging can do this)
# Only engaged models may fight (like now), but casualties can be pulled from anywhere
# Powerfists only get the +1 attack if you have a pair (like lightingclaws)
# Monstrous creatures do fire 2 weapons per turn
# Vehicle LoS for sponsons and various weapons are now defined through a ton of charts
# Obscured and skimmers moving fast now grants a cover save vs damage (and it is a cover save so chew on that for the full implications)
# Assault Attacks versus vehicles with no WS are resolved against rear armor
# Vehicle Squadron rules are very different
# Vehicle Ramming is in (and skimmers get a dodge save to avoid it against non-skimmers)
* You may 'Run' after deepstriking
* Deepstrike Mishap Table (roll when you scatter onto other models or off table) is 1-2: Dead, 3-4: Opponent places your models down, 5-6: Units get placed into reserve again.
* Turn 5 your reserves automatically come on (unless they were placed back in Reserve)
* Swarms have an amended USR to state they are never scoring.
* All models regardless of whether they are scoring or not can still contest objectives

Ah great, just what we need!

On that same note, the first 5th edition army rumoured to be revised is the Imperial Guard, with the following rumours:

"Army wide special rule: I think it's called Platoon Drill or something like that. Basically, units from the same platoon may ignore intervening squads when shooting. So enemy units targeted in this way do not receive the 4+ save. Apparently this only works if the Platoon command squad is alive and within 12" of the rest of the platoon. I've been told that this is just one of the abilities guard Platoons may get, but only as long as the chain of command is intact (whatever that means). So losing your HQ Command Squad may be a really bad thing.

Doctrines are for sure gone (I think we all knew this), but have been replaced by more mutable platoons. Instead of Armoured fist squads you can buy Chimeras for a whole platoon. Or buy the whole platoon grav-chutes to give them deep strike, or drop the heavy weapons from squads and give the platoon Scout. Veteran squads become upgrades to platoons (i.e. they are not elites anymore).

Apparently infantry platoons let you attach certain types of support vehicles to them(kinda like back in second edition). Things like sentinels, hellhounds and demolishers can be attached to platoons. They still take up a FOC spot, but become part of the platoon and so will benefit from the Platoon Drill rule.

The Leman Russ can be bought as a squadron so you can get 3 for a single FOC. They can not be attached to platoons however.

Sniper Squads can now infiltrate, get stealth, range finders and all models in the squad have sniper rifles (and BS 4!).

Like the Land Raider, a new plastic sprue for the Leman Russ has been made that will allow plastic demolishers and a 3rd variant (my money is on the Exterminator).

The Baneblade in NOT in the new codex. It just doesn't work (i.e. overpowered)in games that are not Apocalypse in size.

However Stormtrooper squads can now take Valkyries as transports. Both will be getting a plastic kit. Valkyries follow the rules for skimmers I've been told. Again, they want to keep flyers and super heavies out of "normal games" but give people the ability to use them with all the special rules in Apocalypse and Planet-strike (if the ever get around to that.)

This last one makes me wonder what's they are doing, but apparently there is a new HQ in the book; Inquisitor and Retinue much like the elites from the current Daemon Hunters/Witch Hunters books."

Ah great, just what we need!

WELL HOORAY FOR PLASTIC VALKYRIES!!! Though Im disappointed by the rule about Power Fists, the rule about vehicle ramming is gonna be fun :D. They are also revamping the Rending rule and changing it from hit to wound which is not so good. MY POOR ASSUALT CANNON. :'(

Fifteen Hours was always one of my favorites, its unique in the fact that the author manages to make the battlefield seem absolutely oppressive, large, and deadly. All this despite the fact that the entire war depicted is an insignificant border skirmish on a fringe world that probably has it's file rotting away on the backshelf of the subsector capitol's Administratum Office.

Anyway, the author went on to do great work with the Horus Heresy book Descent of Angels.

I hate to say but Descent of Angels was a huge disappointment to me, in part because my favorite Chapter is the Dark Angels (Besides my own Swords of Faith), and I was looking forward to what the Dark Angels would be doing the Great Crusade and what not. Most of the book resided on Medieval/Modern Caliban to the point where they have their own fleet. Still its the only Horus Heresy novel to date to have The Emperor speak to anyone or anything.

Indeed, though this is a strong and recurring rumour, please keep in mind that it is still a rumour and as of yet, unconfirmed. However, if it is true then my D-99 veterans will be going airmobile for all their future games of 1.000 pts and beyond.

I personally liked the view into Caliban, as it sheds some light onto the mysterious background of the Lion and the world he came from. Not every Heresy novel has to be about conquering planet X13 for the Imperium. Plus the seeds of heresy in the heart of Luther can be seen here. Well before the crusade got off this happened.

I'm not sure if this question has been asked( don't feel like reading 136 pages to find a single question), but is this more geared toward the table-top game, or the computer game. Thanks.
