Why are we mad at France?

Today Colin Powell, who I hoped was the cool head among the administration, made comments to the effect that France would face consequences for opposing the Iraqi war.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/...aw.france.sanctions/index.html
Why are we so angry with the French? Yes, they said they would veto any resolution authorizing war. But all they wanted was for the inspectors to turn up evidence of WoMD, giving a prospective war legitimacy (in the eyes of France and much of the world). I mean, yeah, they disagreed with us. Big friggin' deal. Why can't we let the petty shit go and start repairing our relationship with countries instead of further aggravating the situation?

We're America, and it's our way or no way. Face it, while we're the superpower, we're going to throw as much weight around as we can. Granted I don't agree with it, but it's going to happen anyway. We're going to end up ruling by fear.

Did you miss the part when france said that they would veto our actions through the UN?
I should think that's a rather large part of it.

If we could not have the kicking frogs thing, please. The French consider that very rascist.
On the other matter, so what? The US vetoes 30+ resolutions. Are France pissed off at you? No. Let it go.

Not all our actions, just one. They would veto a resolution authorizing war, because at the time there was not a legitimate reason (in their mind) for going to war. The U.S. was demanding that Iraq disarm or face war - France wanted evidence that Iraq actually had something to disarm. And since we still haven't found anything in Iraq, the French could possibly be right - which makes it strange that we are already talking about "consequences".

On a serious note, I think we should have gone with the French way back before the war. I don't think our dismissal of what they proposed was at all reasonable or logical.
Now~
It seems that I have fallen out of my chair due to panik's picture. Once the intense pain from 5 minutes of hard laughing subsides, I think I will be ok.
Like I said, it's just fun to make fun of the French.
Satisfied, Crack_Smoker?

thats great, but does any nation in the world have the right to take shots at another nation for a differenting opinion, let alone America, the birthplace of freedom of speech and human rights?
And yet no one explained how the French were wrong with their idea of tripling the inspectors. They'll use a Veto? so what- please tell me who holds a Veto- America(pro-war), England(Pro-War), Russia(Anti-War), China(Anti-War) and France(Anti-War). So if France didn't use their Veto, why wouldn't these other nations? And there is a way around the Veto, contry to popular belief- if 2/3 of the security council agrees with the propositution, then its a go, reguardless.
But instead of CONVINCING the 8 Nations of Iraqs guilt, America took the easy way out. And thats Frances Fault

France said that they would veto "any" resolution brining armed conflict to Iraq. Regardless if they found WOMD. They flat out said "Screw you guys I'm going home"

We're making fun of France because they are afraid to confront the arab world because they do not have the power to combat terrorism in their homeland. They are walking a thin line before they get a 9/11. It's another form of appeasement, a trait that Britain finally manuevered out of but France has not yet outgrown.

We are mad at the French because they are being pussies. I don't personally hate them but they should stand up for what is "right". If your anti-war obviously your not going to agree. The want for more weapons inspectors is just dumb. Why the hell should we give him any more time. We've given plenty.

I wouldnt say that we are mad at France, but we're just pushing them to the side. I mean, you could send 100,000 weapons inspectors into Iraq, but as long as Saddam's regime is still in power, you're not going to find any WOMDs because they're hidden under 200 ft of sand, in hospitals, schools, and other obvious places.

you gonna eat that, or just make out with it? the oils still hot, and more inspectors arent going to find anything that has been destroyed in secret to cover saddams ass so he can make a pity play in iraq. the french suck because there so busy worrying about politics theyve lost all sense of strategy. Ergo, la munchae le fried frogaire hoppiers (its frenglish for therefore, eat the fried frog legs)

People need to leave France alone. They feel a certain way and that of course they are going to take whatever actions they can to make sure they get their point across. I think American of all countries should recognize that on some level it wrong to say that France will suffer repercussions if they stand in out way of war.

yeah, ok, stand with france.... Um, but other than the fact Americans are powerful, why exactly are you doing this? Rebellion went out of style in the 40s. Please use logic to backup your beliefs.
