Tupac is okay but he is indeed not hip hop.people always say "hip sucks " and "hip hop always sucked"it doesn't.it is the commercial rappers like 50 cent and that dip set bull that makes rap look crappy.there are still good rappers out there such as murs,the roots,de la soul, little brother,mf doom,madlib and so many more.if you listen to them and still say hip hop sucks then i would respect your opinion.

Gangster Rap shouldn't be a category. Since when was everyone who did rap was a "gangster" Tupac made Rap about life also. It isn't like I want 50 Cent or whoever in your category, maybe they should make another for them. But Tupac deserves Rap, not gangsta rap, not poser rap, R A P.

Um, no. Hip-hop is defined as a culture rather than just simply a musical genre and there are many differences between rap and hip hop.

Hip hop can be equally explicit, so your point is invalid. But does that even matter? Is a song only as good as it is profane? Tell me how that makes any sense. Chris Palko's lyrics are extremely visceral even when he doesn't swear (although he does, to express severity), just one example of how rap can still be great and powerful without unecessary swearing. The only rappers who swear and use epithets very often are those who need filler for their lyrics.

Quit thinking all rap and hip hop is gangsta rap and/or mainstream "hip hop". There are quite a few different subgenres of each, many of which are not like gangsta rap in the least. In my opinion, gangsta rap is pathetic. As I've said before, it promotes all sorts of hate and stupid things. Alternative rap and underground hip hop are great and completely different. They also have meaning, too.

Rap is hip-hop. How you view what hip-hop is doesn't change what the genre actually is.

Ill enjoy some rap like Eminem because he is one of the best lyricists, and other types of rap like Three Six Mafia I enjoy because they make good beats, but those are rap and thats just for entertainment.

When I think of hip-hop I think of Talib Kweli and similar artists because they often have a meaningful message to say.
