Thanks. I was on another forum and a couple people were flaming a canadian saying "You go to a secondary school because your I.Q. doesen't allow for a primary one."
They were serious and no body was questioning it so I was curious.

Know we're on the topic of US schools.. how does your school system work?
Seriously, everybody keeps talking about "lol 8th grade", what age would you be? And how do junior high and high school work? Do you choose a couple of courses after having had the basics of all of them? Does everybody have to follow the same courses?
Most importantly, the ages, I need to knowz.

You get electives in American High School but not enough to make anything enjoyable.
Instead we're all forced to take part in a bunch of classes you probably don't like while the teachers try to desperatly shove SOL answers down your throat for a year. After all, out school system is garbage so instead of actually fixing the problem, our government set up a series of tests that everybody HAS to pass to give off the impression of intelligence.
Test scores come in and everybody has at least a C average so they get to move. Those tests and used as the nation standards and we get to brag about huge percentages of our nations children being intelligent... when all reality we're all actually dumber then we where because insead of learning anything, we all just memorized answers to a test.
The American school system is shit. Our teachers don't get paid shit, the schools are old, run down, and over crowded. We have serious social problems in the hallways like gang warfar and maniacs shooting the football star but all anybody cares about is who is walking through the hall without a pass and how many days of school you missed.
When something does go wrong, we americans pass the blame and continue our lives without fixing the issue. it's not the school or the parents fault 18 kids got shot in math class today, it's the musics fault. Get back and line and take this scantron test, the government needs more money.

In Britain you get Primary Schools then Secondary Schools, but if you live in a small town, it's First School, Middle school then High School.
I'm in Secondary School.

If this is so shocking, how do European schools work? Or really schools from any other country too. Is it really different?

Well here in Germany it's like you go to the "Grundschule" (I think it's best translated as "Elementary School") for 4 years, then you have to choose if you want to go to the "Hauptschule", "Realschule" or the "Gymnasium" (or you can go to a "Gesamtschule", which combines all three).
"Hauptschule" ranges from grade 5 to 9, "Realschule" is from grade 5 to 10 and the "Gymnasium" is from grade 5 to 13 (or from 5 to 12, depends on in which federal state you are going to school).
For a table, what age you are in which grade see Shuko's post. It's exactly the same here.

The Scottish education system is much different (and better) than the one used in England and Wales.
I mean seriously, Sixth Form? What the fuck is all that about?
It's just the last two years of school, 16-18 age group. It's Optional.
I thought you left at 16 in scottish schools as well.

Okay in New Zealand, you start school at the age of 5 at year 1 and got to primary school which goes till you are about 11 or year 7 when you go to an intermediate school till year 9 when you start High school, and can legally leave school when you turn 16 or go on till year 13 which I am starting in about a weeks time.

In Victoria, Australia, we have kindergarten, then 'prep' which is like 'grade 0' if you will, then grades 1 through 12, but after grade 6, we call them 'year 7, year 8 etc'. Thats our secondary school.

Okay, lets start with junior high and high school. Junior high is useally 7th to 8th grade, high school is useally 9th to 12th. Useally, all students have the same basic curiculum (as long as they don't have any specil needs) until high school when you can choose some classes but you still have to learn the regular ones.
Okay, not for ages:
Kindergarden: 5-6
1st grade: 6-7
2nd grade: 7-8
3rd grade: 8-9
4th grade: 9-10
5th grade: 10-11
6th grade: 11-12
7th grade: 12-13
8th grade: 13-14
9th grade: 14-15
10th grade: 15-16
11th grade: 16-17
12th grade: 17-18

Since someone wanted to ask how my school system works then ok. First you are required now to get 22 credits if you are a sophomore or a Freshman. I don't think this is fair since the maximum amout of credits you can get unaided is 24. That is only 3 per sememster. Also that means that unless I have enough money for summer school or I actually do community service then I am not going to be able to.

It all depends on the province you live in in canada. In some provinces there is a elementry and high school, such as mine. Elementry = K-8 and high school is 9-12.
I think adding a third school in is a population thing, but since Saskatchewan amounts to little population, you don't get them.
For all who were wondering.

if anybody is interested this is how schools in malaysia work.
grade/age
primary secondary high
year 1-7 form 1-13 form 4-16
year 2-8 form 2-14 form 5-17
year 3-9 form 3-15 form 6-18
year 4-10
year 5-11
year 6-12
primary and secondary are mandatory.high school is optional and form 6 is really optional as the student may enter pre-university or form 6. At the end of each school term,(year 6,form 3,form 5 and form 6)there is a critical exam(hate this system).
year 6:UPSR, Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah(Primary School Evaluation Test)
form 3:PMR, Penilaian Menegah Rendah(Lower Secondary Evaluation)
form 5:SPM, Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia(Malaysian Education Certificate)
form 6:STPM, Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia(Malaysian Higher Education Certificate)
When the student enters high school, the student must choose a basic course which will then determine the course that the student will take up in university.
There are also Technical schools, Islamic Schools, MRSM (a semi-govermentally owned institution),and Elite Boarding Schools.
