Well first of if you don't know what Celebrity Big Brother is, its a TV show in the UK where serveral celebrities are placed in a house for 3 weeks and voted off one by one.

Anyway, i'm not paticularly a fan off the show but it recently sparked controversy in all the newspapers so i've been following it for the last few days, now the whole controversy came froma view that one of the housemates 'Jade Goody' verbally abused another housemate, who happens to be Indian.

More Info Here

It sparked so much interest over here and Jade Goody has become one of the most hated people in Britian. Not only that but there were riots in India about it. Now our government takes there side and Jade Goody has been taken in for police questioning.

Now i'm not in anyway racist, but I find it hard to understand why our own government is taking the side off the Indians. I just feel that if the same thing happened in India with a white British person, would there government condemn the person who was at fault? Not likely.

I'd like to here some other opinions on this.

First off, what exactly was said? The article you linked was extremely vague. Second, why are you trying to compare the way the British government handles things like this to the way the Indian government would handle a similar situation? Most people know that the positions in Indian government are held by the rich ruling caste, and their country / gov't is in no way as advanced as the Brits in dealing with stuff like this. I don't expect them to deal with it the same way, although I'm sure that if the victim was someone of similar status as in this case they would be forced to apologize. Maybe not if it was just some regular citizen. But still . . .

Well nothing particular racist, just petty arguements. I would personally percieve it as bullying but since the victim was Indian it becomes racist. I just feel the British government should give as good as they ge, I don't see why this incident should be made into a political debate (why did I make a thread here then? =P).

I do remember hearing about this, and from what I can gather this Jade Goody was an insensitive bitch. Some of what she's done were noted on these sites:

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/entert ainment/filmandtv/s/233/233670_celeb_bb_jade_
calls_housemate_shilpa_poppadom.html

http://www.ibnlive.com/news/row-on-but-shilpa -still-suffers/31466-8.html
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6265 127.stm

So basically you have a bunch of snot young idiots acting ignorantly towards this woman because she's not white. They can't pronounce her fucking name so they make up one for her since it's an Indian word, and all Indians respond to whatever Indian word? Fuck that, you fucking ASK the person how to pronounce their name.

Well, then this whole thing is pretty rediculous.

Happens all the time with blacks in AMerica. You can say the same thing to a white guy and a black guy and when said to the black guy it's considered rascist.

I should also note that Wikipedia, despite the flak it takes, has a better list of what all happened during the show:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebrity_Big_Br other_2007_racism_controversy

With the result being that now all the people who participated are going to have their reputations tarnished for quite some time, as they probably should be.

I understand fully what you mean.

My main arguement is why does the British government treat outsiders better than its own?
For example my dad's friend worked as a Post Man (a government job) for 12 years, then he got arthritis. Now he is unable to work and too young to claim his pension, and is given a small allowance which I think is around £110 a week, on which he has to provide for a family of four. He basically hasn't a pot to piss in. His family don't have a car, they don't own there house. They have only basic nessecities. Then theirs an Indian family of 6 that immagrated to this country a couple of years back and live round the corner from me. The father of the family has no arms (i'm not sure how he came about loosing them), so obviously he does'nt work. According to there 18 year old son (who I speak to occasionally) when they came to this country they were given a house to live in, £10,000 for furnishing, there mother was given driving lessons and they got a free car.

How does the government percieve this as fair?

Fair point, but in a previous version off the show (in which Jade was a housemate). In that series Jade was constantly bullied for being Fat, Ugly and Stupid. Now, to be fair, Jade can't help those things anymore than Shirlpa can help being Indian. However when Jade was the victim, what did the media take it as? One BIG joke. They poked fun at her from every angle, even when she cried at poured her heart out to the camera, it was still 'funny'. Now it happens to an Indian and its wrong?

The British government is actually speaking on this? Do they have noting better to do? I mean, for fucks sake, I couldnt imagine the US government going on a crusade against American Idol if they had some wierd shit happen on their show. Fuckin A man.

And this.

Its general secretary, John Dunford, said: "Schools can hardly be blamed for one person's bigotry when the 82% who voted to eject Jade Goody are testament to the work already being done by schools to develop respect, understanding and tolerance."

Later this week a government-commissioned report into citizenship classes is expected to recommend a greater emphasis on the teaching of Britishness and the common values that bind communities together.

Mr Johnson says that, while children must be taught about British history, they should also have an understanding of cultural diversity.

Jeez man. I know America does this also but god damn. What is this, the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Propaganda and Social Engineering?

It was wrong either way. Although after that season Jade had even more of a reason NOT to engage in bullying behavior, especially after what she had gone through. You don't get treated bitchily just to dish it back out to someone else to feel a retarded bit of power.

I see the point you make, and I dont understand why the people who pick housemates let her on in the first place, but some of your argument is flawed.
Shirpa cant help being Indian, but Jade could have changed a few things there.
Fat - coulda gone on a diet, but shouldnt have to. Its a choice.
Ugly, well its all perception.
Stupid - This is the main point.

No one who is a product of the UK school system (who actually made use of their education) can be this dense. If she squandered it, and came out sounding slightly less intellegent than the tarmac I drive over, then she deserves everything she gets to be honest. To come out of (at least) 11 years of education, part of which Im sure is learning about tolerance and multiculturalism, and then spout such crap on TV, bring on the abuse. She seems like the kind of vacuous tramp that was part of the popular clique, and spent all day every day obsessing about her hair and makeup rather than imporving her intellegence from the level of amoeba.

I guess she cant change now though. Ever since being on the piece of shit show the first time round caused her to be locked into the role of thick twat. Its become the basis of her undeserved success, so any attempt at bettering herself could damage profitability.

What a sad statement.

Almost certain they wouldn't care but thats government morality, i imagine if the other country made a big deal about the insulted person, they'd make a big deal too to keep a good relationship. What was said that was controversial?

I don't think it's racism.
Race wasn't the core component of the argument.
She was just been a Bitch on TV.
I mean, we can't blame people from being stupid!

I really hate Jade Goody. I mean here IQ is lower than her shoe size. And what the fuck is she doing in the house again anyway?

So seeing her hit the ground like that is very entertaining to me.

Metaphorically speaking.

Feel bad that my enjoyment is due to racism but I can live with it.

Company?

What’s even more puzzling is what is Dirk Benedict doing there? Isn’t he suppose to be building a armed tank out of a rubber band, a pencil and a half eaten sandwich?

I think it was to keep an eye on her. Y'know considering she has the mental capacity of a ham sandwich.

You are revealing your vast ignorance on the issue at hand. The government didn't bring it up, the media did. In India this woman is as big as Scarlet Johannson, there were riots in the streets. It would have been ridiculous to have not stepped in. Frankly I think all the fuss is ridiculous too. There was nothing racial in it, more that they didn't understand her way of life, not her skin colour. It would have been the same if it was some prominent member of the Royal Family.

Ok, so expressing racist views and inciting racial hatred, thus resulting in social alienation of minorities is 'freedom of speech'?

Yes, as you haven't done anything illegal.

Ironic, some foreigner from a country that complains about American restricting freedom, telling me that the US is stupid for... not restricting freedom. Gotta love it.

Don't you remember the case where a high school student got arrested for saying she wanted out of a study group of Urdu-speaking students, because she couldn't speak their language?

I read that article again, and it was funny because once again, this sentence stood out: "But they say her comments afterwards raised further concerns, for example allegedly referring to the students as "blacks" - something she denied yesterday." Wow, apparently you can be jailed for refering to black people as... blacks. Amazing.
