that's right.. newgrounds audio now has its own official irc chat room!

For people who don't know how to get there:

You're going to need to download an IRC client for your computer, then connect to the server, then join the channel.

Recommended IRC Clients

PC: mirc
Mac OSX: Conversation
Mac OS 9: Ircle

If you're having trouble connecting, or need any other kind of assistance, feel free to ask in this thread.

Oh and most if not all the rules of the audio forum apply to the irc thread as well. Except the off topic discussions will be a little more accepted. Any spamming or the like WILL result in a kick, a ban or loss of user priveleges in the channel.

I also grant permission to post humourous irc conversations from that channel - and ONLY that channel, into this thread ^^

I use trillian, which is an all in one IM client, utilising Yahoo, MSN, AIM and IRC

So I guess it would work with this thing too!

I don't use IRC but would use it if I had a good enough reason to, I guess this is a worthy enough reason.

Can you tell me where I get an IRC account from, to use with this?

Yeah I use Firefox, I have opera too but I think it sucks ;)

Ok I tried that chatzilla, it sucks, it uses waaaaaaay to many resources, memory skyrocketed, just in trying to find the channel.

So if IRC is the way to go with this, can someone elses suggest what I need in order to get an IRC account

Meh, I don't use mIRC. And we can have chat rooms through many different clients, like msn or aim. Take aim for example, since I'm assuming that one is the most popular. Just start a chat room titled, "NewgroundsAudioChat" and then anyone can go to that room by going to the chat room creation thingie and selecting "go to existing chatroom" and then typing in "NewgroundsAudioChat" The only difference from mIRC will be that people won't be able to change their nicks and will have to use their aim screen names, and it wouldn't be possible to kick or ban people.

YUP! It works, I just tried with RedSe7en. All you have to go is to "AIM" or "FILE" (depends on your aim version I believe) and find where it says "Chat Invitation" or "Chat>Buddy Chat" Then when it asks you what room you want to create or go to, type in "NewgroundsAudioChat" and you'll either join or create the room (depends on whether anyone is in it) Also, when it asks you who you want to invite, type "smarterchild" there because he is an aimbot and cannot accept the invitation. This saves you from bothering random people ^^

oh, and please make an aim screen name the reflects your NG alias, because no one wants to remember you by two different aliases. For example, my NG alias is Kirizzle and the aim screen name I use to get to NewgroundsAudioChat is Kirizzle07. Kay, thanks in advance.

I'd recommend using trillian, it's an all in one client as I mention above and it works really easily with IRC I figured at first it would require signing up and whatnot, but nope, not even that.

Ok Guys, some of you may not be too familiar with Trillian, I use it and am certain it can be used for this, I've just got a few things I need help with, if you'd be kind enough to give me some assistance, cheers. Ok there's a picture here showing the information I need to give it in order to connect, some of the fields on that form are self explanatory I'm having trouble sussing out what the server alias is, so if anyone could tell me, that'd be awesome!

No it's not, though it depends on who you're talking to.

I've still got this issue of not knowing what the damn server thingy is, that I asked about above.

kirizzle stop friggin hikacking my thread.. not everyone here uses msn.. and not everyone here uses AIM - this is an irc thread if you wanna make an AIM chat room thread thats fine - I'm just trying to help newgrounds out here.. if you don't wanna use the irc room that's fine itll remain small - just the way it should be. (obviously there wont be many ppl there if you all have the same mentality "oh there is noone here im gonna leave")

u shouldnt have to change any of the rest..
also fill in your username and alternate username - alternate is usually just your username with an _ in front - for example:
username: Chronamut@whatever.com
nickname: Chronamut
alternate: _Chronamut

*note* your name cannot have an _ in it - for example darkside_555 WON'T work - so just take it out of your nick.

then when you join a channel - add a new one: #Newgrounds_Audio - exactly how you see it -then click it and you should be all set!

so in short - I wanted to do a newgrounds a service by redirecting a lot of the primal feeling to just talk about random stuff and redirect it into a universal program that everyone can use that can still be "moderated" so to say. There is really no point in making like a big AIM or msn chat room - I mean we do that all the time. And there is no way to boot a spammer without leaving and making a new chat room.

So stop bashing a good thing and try to make it work - and if noone is there - LINGER a while.. noone is gonna come if everyone has the same mentality that "this sucks im outta here"

then somewhere there chould be a list of channels
