What do you belive? I hear things like Syria is harbouring terrorists and there are WMD in Iraq and a man in Iraq was imprisoned for praying too often. I don't know what to belive. Of course it's not all lies, but some of it is. And I don't want to belive something that's not true, but I want to know facts that are true. So, how would I filter propoganda? Could you filter propoganda? Independent media on the web may even be censored as the American government controls the very internet itself. Should I just belive it all and seep in the bullshit, or belive nothing and be uninformed?

Propaganda is well-made when you ask yourself questions like that - how can you tell? Syria is good propaganda.

Propoganda is anything said by someone other than the GOP.
Other parties exist during their non-GOP periods only to defame and degrade the GOP, and I don't think anyone will deny that.

Propaganda is when your government sez we're going to war to remove that evil regime who has killed thousands -- but the result is your government kills thousands more..

there are a few ways that I know of, but there may be others
1 is it only a single case which appeals to emotions and not facts
2 will someone profit from this statement
3 who said it (anything the government says is immediately propaganda, true or not)
4is there any way to check up on this statement (such as the "impostor sadam" theory the us puts forth)
again, my deifinition of propaganda is information to control your thoughts, not neccessarily untruths
My band Sin City ScoundrelsOur song Vixen of Doom
HATE.
Because 2,000 years of "For God so loved the world" doesn't trump 1.2 million years of "Survival of the Fittest."

Propaganda can be good, too. Look at Roosevelt's 'Four Freedoms'. It gave breadline hicks some hope while they were jobless and starving. Yeah.

Identify propaganda is hard, all you can do is have an open mind and get all the information you can. You should try the following to help filter the information you recieve :
1) Vary your sources and avoid news chanel that might have a chosen side or recieve information from a single source. CNN, for exemple, recieve all it's information from the american army, their is no doubt it has been filtered to hide facts that might make the population doubt. If you do watch CNN, make sure to watch informations from Al-Jazeera so you'll have both stories and you can decide what to believe.
2) Never trust entirely governement officials from both side. They to filter the information. exemples could be George Bush, Collin powell but also the Iraqi officials, they lie so that the population keep supporting them, and that stands for both sides.
3) Remember their is no clean or predictable war. Civilian casualities and predictions on war developement are usually optimistic.
4) If an information seems a little to white, search the counter story. Bush is not all white and Saddam is not all black.
5) All description that include the principles of Good and Evil is not to be taken seriously. Good and Evil is a subjective point of view, thus does not reflect reality (think of the "axis of evil" for exemple).
6) remain objective.
Hope that helps.

Although a few posters put up some very good rule of thumb advice that will carry you through 90% of everything out there, A more intensive study is needed for the true web based political wonk.
For you view enjoyment and edification I give you this post.
In this post he provides links to these four informative websites.
All in all it is quite a long read and best broken up into smaller chunks but very informative.

Propaganda is half truth or misinformation given so that one will side with the party that provided the info. I guess it is pretty hard to know what truth is and what lies are when it comes to war coverage or news that has to deal with anything overseas. I try to listen to international news and put a story together based on my findings. Everyone isn't a liar and everyone probably won't ever be telling the same lies...although it is possible.

Propaganda (n.)-
1. The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause.
2. Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a doctrine or cause: wartime propaganda.
3. Propaganda Roman Catholic Church. A division of the Roman Curia that has authority in the matter of preaching the gospel, of establishing the Church in non-Christian countries, and of administering Church missions in territories where there is no properly organized hierarchy.
I hope this was helpful.
