So canada, your crazy neighbore to the north, has chosen not to participate in the local war.....what do you think will happen to us/can relations after the smoke has cleared.

nothin... canada will still rely on the US to defend it from outside sources...

and the US will still be the top army in the world..

so in conclusion canada is pissed at the US and nobody cares

Heh. Too few people even acknowledge Canada's existence/relevance enough for it to be attacked by "outside" sources."

Name me one instance where Canada has been singled out for attack by another nation (other than the U.S.) in the last 200 years and I will give you $1.

Seriously though, the only danger to Canada would be nuclear fallout from somebody nuking the U.S.

As for the first question as to Canada/US relations... nutin'. As soon as the "smoke clears" people will stop caring about it as soon as the TV networks lose interest in the war.

Heh. And you would probably be disappointed, Ted. The dollar I would send you be a Canadian one. Because of the exchange rate you would actually be getting only 60 cents@!

But I suppose you did raise a good point. Failed to consider that in my fatigue/

This thread is headed straight for the bottom. Why? 'Cause Americans (for the most part) don't give a shit and don't know anything about Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if a poll found that 81% of Americans believe that Canadians all live in igloos. All you Canadians out there who watch the CBC need only remember Rick Mercer's "Talking to Americans" as a reminder.

Of course, there isn't much to know about Canada anymore. As of the 1990's, we have no culture of our own. It's all been Americanized. You need only see our TV networks that run exactly the same prime time shows as American networks do as proof. They only run Canadian content by law and even then, they only run it on Saturday/Sunday afternoons.

I read in the newspaper this morning that George W. Bush did not want to go in Canada ever again while Jean Chretien is in power. Relation will be a bit shaked, but nothing alarming. Trade will go on, all will be forgotten, Americans will still make jokes about Canadians etc...

I think the following accidents are to considered in the current state of Canada/America relations:
-The conflict over wood.
-Chretien's assistant openly calling Bush a moron.

By the way, I live in Quebec (let's see if some of you know where Quebec is !)

Dude... I live in Alberta... and some people in my high school social studies class didn't know where Quebec is. But those same people probably could name all the states in America.

I still can't believe it. Canada used to be America's little brother, now it doesn't want to get involved. I would stay off the Al-Can highway if I were you(assuming you're an American)

Go ahead and send my a Canadian dollar.
I'd go spend it.
Considering I live in Ontario, that's not an odd thing.
But I did make a good point, so let's settle on 50 cents?

Well, I think that Canada did the right thing staying out of the war because it wasn’t UN approved; I mean by preemptively striking Iraq the US violated the Geneva Convention. Doesn’t international law count for anything? Besides Canada will likely help in the clean up effort so relations should return to normal.

Nope. We're just as contaminated as everywhere else on the planet. Our side of the great lakes is just as disgusting as yours.

Alberta's environmental track record is so shitty that it was feautred in National Geographic.

Ah, progress...

Trust me when I say we're really not that different than America in that we have a trashed environment, ecoterrorist industries, and corrupt politicians who support them.

I thought canada was just the suburb of the us, you know, having your own laws and borders but getting all of your income from the city (america). that way you can have all the perks of being american, with none of crap like crime, refugees, needing an army, private healthcare etc.

I'm glad we didn't participate in this war. History shows that time and time again Canadians are used in experimental attacks (Dieppe), Human shields (Vimmy Ridge). And then when it comes time to sign treaties, restructure countries, distribute resources, the Americans and Britains do it and we have no say. We're ocnsidered expendabable by the world super powers. If Canada were to participate in this war, our men would be killed, the US and Britain would get all the glory, and we woudl have no say in post-war Iraq.

Nothing, Canada will remain a weak, silent state.

One of many hiding behind the USA, without any reciprocation.

...
I notic now that only Canadians are replying to this topic...I guess americans really don't care about canada all that much...but I degress.
I think that Canadians need more national pride, I know in New Brunswick were all proud of Canada, not because of some whino-dickhead who's just getting out of office, but because its al the good of america without the overcrouded, crime ridden life style that we hear so much about...immigrents don't have to conform to the system in order to survive culturaly.
Canada should definatly show more backbone and start taking more international efferts in order to get some kind of "publicity".
*On an off note..wouldn't it be cool if canada was like the UN enforcement country? With its peace keeping tallets and all those wars that keep happening people would respect the nation more (as long as we shoved it in other nations faces)....
...what a minute! mebey its not the actions of the nation which dictate its influance...I think the amount of a nations media thats avallible to the world makes it more powerful...look at the U.S, Britain, China... media isn't a by-product of a successful nation..its the means toward a successful nation.

Dont you wonder why Canada doesnt sent military aid
to Iraq? Because they dont want to lose precious
lives for something that they dont think it is worth
to send troops for.

Canada had shocking success at Vimy Ridge, and I've never heard of anything about human shields.

That's usually what people do when they don't support the war. I've never heard of someone sending troops in protest of a war. Unless it was to the aid of the Iraqi forces.
