Worst Guitar Solo? 2007-01-05 00:02:40 Reply

In your opinion, what song has the worst guitar solo?

For me, it's Vermillion by Slipknot, a mediocre song by a mediocre band, but the guitar solo is too crappy sounding, which makes it sound too long :[

There's probably many more songs, but I can't really think of any right now.

And remember everybody: YOUR OPINION = FACT, argue as much as possible if someone has the balls to dare challenge you by disagreeing!

I beleive there was a song off of Audioslave's most recent CD that had a solo where Tom Morello (the guitarist) pretty much just played the same really high note over and over again for like 4 measures with a wah pedal.

I mean seriously anyone who's heard any of the first 3 Rage Against the Machine Albums (or the first 2 Audioslave albums for that matter) knows he's capable of much more then that.

But yeah.

Serious? That was a pretty well pieced together solo, although he messed up in a few places, it shows that he's got talent and can write a very good piece of music.

HAHAHA That was terrible.

The guy seemed like he COULD be good, he had decent technique but he invented the worst most boring solo lacking in any personality what so ever. That was the most mundane thing ever to shit in my ears

Your favorite bands are pretty metal, so I guess you're just angsty, and not really defending slipknot, or that song by them :[

The solos for CCR's version of Susie Q are a little painful, as is the Stone's one for Sympathy for the Devil. Great songs/bands, but bad solos.

I think part of the problem with that solo was that he had no support from the band.
But the other problem is that he can only sort of tap. He's no Mattias Eklundh, that's for damn sure.

What? that sounded to me like mostly garbage, but I may be wrong.
Nah, he can play good, and fast, but that sounded like shit.

Agreed. He may sound good in the studio, but live is where your true skill (or lack thereof) comes out.

I love how he can't finish his fast runs so he just randomly sticks bends in there. It's horribly sad.

Fast does not make a good guitarist.

The worst fuck up of a good solo has to be this new GNR live performance of November Rain. The three solos in this song all have a different level of shit. The second being the smelliest and runniest.

Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker has some of the sloppiest shredding I've ever heard on a studio album. Yes, that's right kids, Jimmy Page really isn't a 'guitar god'.

And has anybody seen DragonForce live? they fuck up pretty bad.

That solo was one of the best ever made. And by the way, "shredding" didn't exist in 1969, which is when that song was recorded and released (on Led Zeppelin II).
On top of that, Eddie Van Halen has said Heartbreaker is what inspired him to make Eruption on Van Halen's self-titled debut album. Doesn't that mean that Page at least helped inspire shredding?
And if you still think it could have been better, put on Zeppelin's live album "How The West Was Won", for the 3 minute solo on that particular Heartbreaker makes almost all the guitarists in the last 20 years look like piles of crap.

Everybody fucks up. With the possible exception of David Gilmour.

I guarantee that would have sounded amazing with the other members =). Without someone to help keep time and to fill in the tonal holes, a solo 99% of the time sounds like trash, especially in a non-studio-live-audience situation with a place that probably has terrible accoustics.

Not to mention he's a band player, not a soloist, which makes him a better player than most of those virtuoso's who only play with themselves. Pun unintended.

Jack Black's solo on the Tenacious D DVD is painful to watch.

Even Kyle has an expression of "What the fuck is he doing?"

The thing Fink has the biggest problem with are his bends. He doesn't know what the fuck is going on. Another example of a great band player but a terrible solist.

Slash is the same way, but that's more his tone than his playing.

Whatever. Shredding and soloing are synonymous to me.

On top of that, Eddie Van Halen has said Heartbreaker is what inspired him to make Eruption on Van Halen's self-titled debut album. Doesn't that mean that Page at least helped inspire shredding?

I don't care how influential it was. The fact of the matter is that it was a trashy solo.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

And by the way, I don't hate Jimmy page, or Led Zeppelin for that matter- In fact, they used to be my favorite band, and I still occasionally give them a good listen. I just don't care for that particular solo. No need to be so defensive.

Eh... not the night I saw them. The only fuckup that happened was Vadims keyboards dying during Trail Of Broken Dreams. They got fixed though.

But back to the guitars- Herman played better than he did on the album that night. Sam, being drunken, played kind of as well as Herman. But hey, you can't judge a band by one show.

Right.

A real lead guitarist knows when it's his time to shine. The difference between a soloist and a musician is that a soloist will make the song his while a musician while make the song the bands.
