When I grow up, I want to be JMHX's bitch. Unless he's a pedophile.
Should that be the case, I'm applying for that position right now.

Kids, I am going to begin a school for such purposes as the education of the 15-year-olds.

Lesson 1: You must ALWAYS remember that you don't know ANYTHING about politics. That goes for all of you. There are no exceptions.
Gotta admit, I don't know anything about politics either. Ah well.

Imperator, I'll leave it at this: I'm shitty at talking about stuff, and you've basically agreed with what I had intended to say.
My point was that, just because someone has life experience, that doesn't mean that their opinion on a subject alone carries more weight than other's opinions and the facts.
If a younger person presents hard facts and statistics that have been studied and compiled by older, wiser people, they hold more weight against the older guy with life experience and less knowledge of the subject.

My problem is that your example below discounts the possibility of the reverse being true as well. Just because someone has facts and stats to back up an argument does not mean that they carry more weight than someone with purely life experience. You're looking at empirical evidence as the only weight that can be counted, where the # of facts one knows somehow equates to # of months/years of experience one has in the field.
That's not a fair assesment at all, because not every fact and stat should be counted the same, nor should they be weighed against something as subjective as experience. If they DID have to be weighed, I would most certainly count experience over a textbook.
Examples include multi-millionairs in the business world who have never stepped inside a business class in their lives. These people had no stats, no facts, nothing upon which to base their business arguments save THEIR OWN LIFE EXPERIENCES, and the results for them were obviously very successful.
Or the marine veteran who has never stepped into a military theory class. If I got to choose who I went to war with, I would choose the veterans over freshly graduated West Point troops ANY day of the week, and twice on Sundays.
How about politics? There ARE political degrees out there, but not every President had/has one. We often look at a candidates previous EXPERIENCES in politics as the measure of his skill, ie, governor, senator, Rep, Secretary of XXX, etc. These are occupations in which the # of facts you know is NOT indicative of your expertise in the field, nor is it an assurance that you will hold said positions.
Take a few college courses on memory and history if you get a chance, and take a few psych courses for good measure. You'll start to see things my way then....

Back up, back up.
I was only trying to use my example to refer to the topic starter's marijuana legalization statement, and that people of almost any age can form a valid opinion based on facts and statistics and shouldn't just be written off an account of their age.
Of course there are a number of issues on which life exprience is a necessary part.
My statements were directed toward the prohibition issue. That's why I used the firearms and alcohol examples.

Life experience means nothing, eh? No wonder we've got 15-year-olds who want the drinking age lowered while marijuana is legalized.

I'm 20, and you are only 19. Going with your logic, my views must be more valuable than yours because I have more life experience. If your not 20, you don't know anything. You just haven't reached that level of life experience yet I'm sorry to say.

HAHAHA greatest post ever. We were all there once though.
1. FEMA victimizes black people after hurricanes and makes it look like they looted stuff and shot people when they really didn't.
2. Black people are victims and white trash, those dumbass white trash who work menial jobs like PLUMBING, still wear hooded robes and downpress the black man.
3. "I know right" -- 15 year old pothead "commie"

This topic is actually pretty interesting.
JMHX, As I read your first post and the many ones following, the first thing I decided was, "You are an idiot."
But I read more of what you wrote and grudgingly admitted that "Well you may be an idiot, but you do argue convincingly."
Finally at the end of this topic I had to say "JMHX isn't actually an idiot and what he says makes sense."
The only problem is that I find annoying is that "15 year olds" is too specific. There are many prodigys who develop this asshole attitude at 13 and many others continue to have this attitude until they're quite a bit older.
But other than that it is a pretty intelligent statement.
(I don't really know why I'm posting this since no one here cares about my opinions)

Alright, I'm 15, and i agree with some of this and disagree with other parts. Personally, I think any 15 year old is an idiot. Not in the sense that they are actually mentally stupid, just that fifteen year-olds have not even scratched the surface of life. We dont understand death, we dont fully understand the consequences of the choices we make. But what i disagree with is that any one of you can sit there and judge how intelligent or how ignorant we are, because your'e going through the same things. So your graduating high school, or college, or whatever, but you still dont understand many aspects of life, and no human being on this planet ever will until they actually expirience them first hand. You can't judge on Yu-gi-oh, (which I dont know any 15 year old who still does that, there must be one out there somewhere, but..yeesh.) you cant judge 15 year old KIDS on what we dont know, because your in the same boat. We all are.

Thank you for playing and proving JMHX's theorem correct. Please proceed to the next room for debriefing and psychiatric councelling.

We all know what it was like. All of us were your age once and most of us will admit to having been dumbasses at the time. Hormonal rage and a newspaper do not make you smart.

Forgive me fo what may seem to be a lack in modesty (I in fact suffer from a cevere inferiority complex) but if you saw my bookshelf you'd realize I'm not your average fifteen year old kid.

A large bookshelf full of Spiderman and Batman comics does not impress me. Especially with cpelling like cevere......
My bookshelf doesn't even impress me, and I've probably got a quite extensive one for an undergrad.....

You're making a remarkably poor argument I must say.
I doubt there is one 15 year old on Earth who would call themselves an uninformed, average 15 year old.
