Well, I've been waiting a while to whore around my new site to you guys, but I'm ready now.

It's called Webivia (http://www.webivia.com) - it's an online trivia portal.

I'd like some comments and suggestions if that's possible, and some feedback from my programming forum homies.

Thanks!

I don't like the green background on the navigation, but that's just personal taste I guess. It looks pretty nice though!

I agree exactly.. The green background on the navigation just doesn't see right.. Other then that it's fine.

I think the idea is awesome, and it is coded well, it is the design, that i think is a bit 'iffy'

I think the background, for the page, is way to outstandish, and everything doesn't really 'flow'.

I think that if you dulled the colors down a bit, and made it 'flow' more, it would make for an awesome site.

The portal rocks btw.

I like the idea but like everyone said, the layout needs some work. The colors don't play well with each other and the background should probably be solid if you were to keep it. If all of the colors were solid (like the blue and green) rather than having the lines through them, they'd look a lot nicer together.

Hmm, I'll try to think of what else we can make them. It's difficult to get things to go with the blue BG, and I really like the blue BG on the top. Thanks for the comment.

I tried taking out the gradient BG and replacing it with just white, and it looked really bad.

Thank you :) Any ideas on how to make it flow more? Both me and the site designer (I'm just the programmer) are very new to designing websites, so I'm not really sure how to make it flow.

That's something I might try, getting rid of the gradient. Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you everyone, and please keep it coming because I really want to make the layout as good as it can be. Also, feel free to try out the system (accounts, question submit). Please don't submit test questions though because it IS a live site.

It hink it's a great idea, but the layout is bad.

Also, just stupid thing you should fix: even if you're already logged in you can access the sign up page.

I thing you should a little more space on the sides of the content box because the text is right next to the background on some pages like logout or user cp.

Good point. I added a content box around them which gives some padding and makes it look nicer.

Well, it is an awesome site(Pwnz Yahoo! answers), but seriously needs CSSing up. I really hate the default link colours, maybe add in hover colours aswell? Also, on the question view page, the box on the left is out of align.

I don't like the fact that the forum of it is a subforum of one hosted somewhere else, it would probably be more suitible to add a forum to the webivia domain and make it a template like the normal site one.

I also think you should integrate the signup with the forum signup.

But i think the main thing is styling everything better with CSS.

The link colors are actually set as blue for non visited and black for visited. I'll definitely add a hover though. But I'm really curious what you mean about the question view page out of align, because I don't see it and it's like our most important page. Which box is it? What browser are you using? Thanks.

I see what you mean. I'd like to somehow keep them semi-together though.

I also think you should integrate the signup with the forum signup.

I hope to do that. It's something that keeps getting suggested but being that we use phpBB it's a little bit hard. I'm going to try later on, but there's so many more features we need to add to Webivia first.

But i think the main thing is styling everything better with CSS.

I agree it should use more CSS, but I don't think that'll make it look better. Before I devote the time to CSSing it, I want to make sure we like the look.

Thanks for the suggestions.

OK, let's type up a few things then :)

1) The background gradient. Make it fade to another colour than plain white. It's horribly blinding ;)
2) The ad is totally out of place, unless your attempt to style it a bit better.
3) The links need a hover effect, and they need styling. I think #8F8F8F might do.
4) The boxes on the front page... either you add a little more shadow or you add some rounded corners. Both would be nice too ofcourse ;)
5) The top header. Well, what is there to say? I like it, but it doesn't work right. Open up photoshop, stick your buttons in it and make an image map out of it, will be much cleaner ;)
6) The green background on the portal is a pain to see. Atleast do it in the same background as the rest.
7) Fix the background on some more places.
8) Get an easy stylable forum like PunBB and integrate it.
9) Style the blog.

I think those are pretty much the most important parts for now.

Yes, they are set like that. But not for every page, some still display as the default. I'm also uing firefox 2.0.0.1.

I hope to do that. It's something that keeps getting suggested but being that we use phpBB it's a little bit hard. I'm going to try later on, but there's so many more features we need to add to Webivia first.

There might be a forum which is easier to skin going around.

Thanks for the suggestions.

No problem.

I'll talk to the designer about that because I can't really do it anyway. I think I agree though.

2) The ad is totally out of place, unless your attempt to style it a bit better.

I'll try to integrate it better later, but hopefully that top banner wont be using Google Ads much longer so it shouldn't matter.

3) The links need a hover effect, and they need styling. I think #8F8F8F might do.

Done :) (Looks really good I think)

4) The boxes on the front page... either you add a little more shadow or you add some rounded corners. Both would be nice too ofcourse ;)

Good suggestion, I'll talk to the designer because again I can't really do either of those.

5) The top header. Well, what is there to say? I like it, but it doesn't work right. Open up photoshop, stick your buttons in it and make an image map out of it, will be much cleaner ;)

I'd LIKE to try to stay away from image maps because I find them hard to modify though. I'll try to tweak what we have.

6) The green background on the portal is a pain to see. Atleast do it in the same background as the rest.

Unfortunatley that'll take some time because I need to get the designer to do that also because it requires some images being edited. I think that'll look better though.

8) Get an easy stylable forum like PunBB and integrate it.

To be honest I've been looking forward to phpBB3 for like 3 years now, and I'd really like to use it. It'll just take me more time to integrate but when I get the time it shouldn't be that hard.

9) Style the blog.

Agreed, but on the back burner, because again there's a million cool features we want to add.

I think those are pretty much the most important parts for now.

Thanks a TON for all the suggestions. I think we'll be integrating most of them, so stay tunned :)

The site-wide font should be showing up as tahoma...

Glad you like it :) Thanks for submitting the questions, I've liked all of yours so far.

Your programming questions will be great for when we integrate quizzes, but I'm not going to give away exactly what they are, but it'll add a whole additional element to the site.

I think maybe you should have a second navigation bar on top so the people can choose what type of question they want to answer/ask. you know like, make a sports questions, music questions, ect. Looks nice though =]

Thanks. What you suggested is kind of like categories (http://www.webivia.com/categories/). But I'm also going to be introducing something called portal preferences which will allow you to filter out certain questions from being visible to you in the portal. So for instance, if you don't like food questions, you'll be able to not have them show up in the portal. I hope that covers what you were saying, and thanks for the suggestion.
