Burk challenges CEOs at Augusta
"Stand up and support Hootie, or stand down," activist says
ASSOCIATED PRESS

ATLANTA, April 10 — Martha Burk called on Augusta National members to take a stand against Hootie Johnson and turn in their green jackets if they don’t agree with him on the issue of women members.

TRYING TO REGAIN the momentum in her fight to get a woman admitted to Augusta National, Burk said Thursday that club members who disagree with the club chairman should resign.

"If they do not agree with this policy, they must resign their memberships," Burk said. "The choice is to stand up and support Hootie, or stand down."

i usually see both sides of an argument when there are protests involved, but i really cannot symphasize with burk and her man-hating stance.

ive never agreed with this protest of augusta. yes, i am a man, so my view may be a little skewed by the fact that if i were really good i could be a member, but i really dont see why this is such a big deal.

it is a PRIVATE club - makes me kinda wonder if maybe this burk character wasnt allowed to join the other boys on the block in their treehouse.

it sort of bothers me that she thinks she has some kind of power over augusta, as evidenced by her “If they do not agree with this policy, they must resign their memberships” nonsense. whats she going to do? close down the club because all members do not agree with the leader? thats ridiculous.

another thing...she is 'The head of the National Council of Women’s Organizations.' shouldnt she be concerned with organizations made FOR WOMEN? augusta has always been all men, its tradition, so its the way it should be. maybe shed let me into some of her 'Women’s Organizations'...i doubt it.

im gonna wrap this up by apologizing if i sound sexist, that was not my intent. i just really do not believe that some woman who is probably terrible at golf should be protesting this. if it means so much to the members of the LPGA, maybe they should be leading this movement.

and dont even get me started on 'Rev.' Jesse Jackson

Sometimes, it just seems like Martha Burk has some personal vendetta against Augusta, as if she takes it personally that no woman has ever been admitted as a member.

But look at it this way--it is a club for the rich. 99% of the country's population--male or female--will NEVER be a member of Augusta National. It's really not very much different from a fraternity at a college, except instead of a bunch of college students, it's a bunch of rich guys who play golf. They are a private organization, and they admit who they want to admit. And I never hear of anyone protesting the all-male membership of college fraternities.

Women are allowed at the club as guests, and are allowed to play the course. But the club has always been a guy thing, and if they want to keep it that way, so be it. Martha Burk needs to find something better to do than complain about women not being admitted to a club that most people of either sex will never be admitted to anyway.

Martha Burk is a goofy cunt. Augusta should be allowed to do whatever the hell it wants to do. Like it was pointed out, women are allowed to play the course as guests. It's not like someone is at the front gates ejecting females if they try to pass.

I did love the fact that Augusta gave Burk an assigned space to protest which was around a corner, down the street in a low-visibility area. The only bad thing about that what the fact that next to the protestors, there's a guy who is selling t-shirt & novelties making fun of Burk. His sales might suffer a bit from the poor location. Give 'em hell, Harry!

She just didn't get hugged enough as a little girl, and is out trying to fight any cause that will get her news. I don't know...it's private, so what? Go join another club. Go join the LPGA or something. Quit complaining.
