I started off, and I want to know how do I add a frame.

Wow, that is a tough one. F5 to extend a frame, F6 for a keyframe, F7 for a blank keyframe. Check out the commands in the menu bar.

No worries, you're not a failure so far. :)

Hit Control+Enter. Both pops a window with your movie and exports the SWF along your FLA doc.
To preview the animation in the the IDE, just hit Enter.
