Is what they're replacing the World Trade Center with. Wussy small 'artsy' buildings topped off by a wussy spire.
(Sorry if this seems out of place, but I didn't think it really had a place on the General either, and I haven't seen a thread about it lately or ever.)

i don't think it looks that bad. plus, it doesn't matter what we think about it because its not us funding the buildings. who is actually funding these buildings?

Well, you know, it could be a lot worse like a mall or a parking lot. We all know that the original owner of the piece of land under the WTC could have sold it to anybody, but he was considerate enough to ask the victim's families their opinion... I guess they have rotten taste by your standards ! (don't take this has an insult, I think it could be better too)

People didn't like the Vietnam Memorial wall when it was completed. Maybe these 9/11 memorials will be accepted over time.

that is true. The new building is a bad idea they should have just rebuilt the WTC...but like made a bridge...cause that would be cool to walk across from like one crash point to the next crash point on each tower

First of all, I wouldn't say that it's actually worse than 9/11. I'd rather see an ugly building than see people die.
Second, I don't think it looks that bad. I'm not sure how big they're going to be, but if your description of them as "wussy" means they won't be very big, then yes, they should be bigger. What better way to say "screw you" to Osama?

I think some of the plans for new buildings did call for a bridge between two new towers, which would be where the 9/11 memorial would be located.

yer. the only thing that might dampen that is Osama taking that as offensive and trying to knock them down again. and succeeding.

The world would turn against me? Those bastards!!! I'd show them how invincible I truely am!! For I am the almighty MD....
Oh, you meant America.... The way you say it, you give the impression that you think the rest of the world wouldn't hurt from cutting off trade to the USA....

It's not worse.
What would be worse would be the actual rebuilding of the WTC. Something that tall isn't going to be very sturdy, and would definately be subject to future attacks.
At least they know what they're dong now. This is better than all the bickering that was going back and forth instead of some real progress.

The spire stretches up higher than the original towers... but should the spire actually count?

Yes, and Geroge W. has the United States Army ready to persuade you if you don't think so. Not really, but it seems like it sometimes. Come on, the damned building isn't that bad; I would have pressed for a complete rebuilding of the World Trade Centers, but that would never have happened. Now everyone is too paranoid to move forward and rebuild what was lost.

And he's right! it wouldn't!!
Asia and Europe already produce the vast capacity of electrical goods. And maybe a few more films from France, Germany, and Russia and China, etc. - would actually do the "outside world" a lot more good than half the crap that comes out of Hollywood :D

It's called a WORLD economy for a reason. That world includes America, whether people like it and Hollywood and microwave ovens or not. America wasn't the only country that hurt from 9/11, people (hopefully) know. That's all I have to say about that.
Back on topic. The new complex plans blow. I guess we might as well turn the rest of New York into a short, artsy fartsy crap fest town.

If anyone lives in Montana or Wyoming, you have nothing to worry about as far as terrorism goes.

So, the last one was half full and haemorraging money (I should know, I was there two weeks before it was demolished, having had lucnh at an Afghan kebab house - creepy), so it's such a wise idea to build one EVEN BIGGER, just as a bit of national ego placation, rather than some more sensible ideas that were pitched, such as a mass transit hub to sort out the general anarchy that is the New York subway system. I guess those pathetic "Quintupal Towers" pics that were circulating were prophetic in their arrogance after all.
