whenever i draw something in flash it has a blue box around it, like i just converted it to a symbol but i didnt, how do i turn this off?

did you group it instead? to get rid of it, hit control+B. that's break it down.

I imagine your using flash 8 and you probably have Object Drawing on. When the paint brush tool is selected go to the bottom of the tool panel and under options is a picture of a circle with a box around it, uncheck that.
