Yesterday, a US Soldier placed an american flag over the head of a statue of saddam hussein's head, in front of the whole wide world.

Pretty stupid action if you ask me. That would only enrage the arabic nations and encourages the idea that the war on iraq is a US invasion.

i'm sure it's published in all the newspapers today ;)

the fact is that America doesn't want to find "evil leaders", otherwise they would say "WANTED - dead in 1 piece, or alive" ..not utterly obliterating a residential restaurant.

i dont think he placed the US flag to show dominance but to show that the US means business......if you noticed the soldier did the same thing to the Iraqi flag and it was quickly removed....this one showing that the country iis for the people to let him know that he has lost his grip on the country.......

Either way, it enraged a lot of Iraqis and Iraqi Americans, as well as people in Middle Eastern nations that were pissed from seeing the flag raised in Basra. We're not doing a good job of keeping the "conquest" wave in check.

If you saw the tape of the soldier, he actually put the American flag over Saddam's head like an executioners mask briefly. It was only up for a moment, to send a message. The Arab world tends to understand symbolism more than logic. Message: get your shit together, because the U.S. means business. That sent a message. The soldier then took it down and put the Iraqi flag up only after a couple minutes. Message delivered. Nice job, troops!

probably. a better thing to have done was to have just knocked the statue over. muslims think this is a war on islam.

Oh give them a break, the soldiers need to feel good for a little while they wont get to stay in bahgdad for long. Besides When the showed the video, the Iraqi people were cheering much higher when the American flag was up, I think they are scared the soldiers might leave.

What many are conveniently trying to ignore is that when that flag was put up there, the crowd roared in approval. I saw it live that morning before it was reduced to 'highlights' later in the afternoon. That flag was passed to the crowd who held it high in exultation.

When you see Arab crowds holding pictures of Bush and US flags in triumph and joy, rather than in flames, you know that something remarkable has happened in that region.

I totally agree with that

That would only enrage the arabic nations and encourages the idea that the war on iraq is a US invasion.

That's probably why they took it off after a few minutes.

Yeah, you're absolutely right, we should let the Arabs take over the United States to be fair, and we shouldn't eat meat either.
