is there some setting to fix this or is my computer just running slow
thanks in advanced
You may have way too much going on. Are you overusing tweens (particularily shape tweens), or do you have any over-complex scripts?
This often happens on anyones computer. all you have to do is just keep playign the .swf with Ctrl+Enter. It just does this because there's more information for you to run when starting it.

windows?
ctrl+alt+delete.
processes.
AOL and other user applications = stop.
I find it odd that all these people are worrying about lag. my computer is like 6 years old. I live in lag. No one out there cares anymore about slower computers. at least the majority. That's why all these filtered flashes are the death of me.

that happened to me when i made 60 fps flash, its just too much for it to handle. the swf just has to play it, but in configuring flash, it has to so much so it lags

Why would you make a 60 fps flash? Your eyes can't even see every frame.
if it runs fine as a .swf then whats the problem?

games should be made in no less the 60 fps.
rather flahs game, comp game
ps3
wii.
what ever
its been the stanrd fps for years and years.
reasoning is becuse of reaction time.
do you want to press punch then watch the animation punch?
or you want to hit punch and have your char punch?
think 60 fps is crazy
flying and racing games are made aroudn 120 fps..
there is other factors.
but yeah even though things only run on 24 fps,
60 should be min when making games
