Not true. Anything you write on the internet can be used against you effectively in court.
And while this isnt completely illegal, there are gray areas where this issue can be considered illegal. For example: If they googled the names for every kid in your school, then this would be perfectly legal. But if they singled you out, without vany just reason to do so, besides "OMG we dont liek him!", then you can claim that your rights are being violated. While NG is a place where anyone can read the forums, think of it this way: Stores, businesses, churches, and other places are also public, but that doesnt mean it would be right for them to follow you to all those places, would it?
A few years ago, a school official was stabbed from behind at a nearby high school. The staff almost immediately began questioning one kid, john, who had a history of causing trouble (But not violence), and about a week later, he found that the school had been searching through all his BBS posts. (This wasnt NG, BTW.)
Anyway, after the whole event was settle, and the real culprit was found, this one kid, John, sued the school for what they had done, and won the case.
Moral: If they don't have any evidence that you are breaking laws (or school rules, for that matter), then they should get the fuck off NG before they get themselves in trouble.
Also, there is freedom of speech. Write anti-semitic stuff if you want to. As long as it isnt anything illegal or violent, it is protected speech.
