This would have all the countries that get along with each other in the north such as
Iceland, Norway, Finland, United Kingdom, Denmark, Netherlands
2. Southern EU
This would have all the countries that get along with each from the south such as,
Germany, Italy, France, Spain.

I doubt that a United Europe is possible. It would be nice, in a utopian sense, but with the recent re-rising of nationalism amongst nations it seems very unlikely.

I followed your debate, and I couldnt agree more with redskunk. I find it hard to comprehend, that someone who excually lives in europe, has no idea of whats going on, and someone from the states does.
Elkrobbers statements are totally made up (which he also points out himself), and absolutely not based on any historical facts.
Europe is getting unified, the european parlement is getting more power every year, and it probably wont take long before a european constitutian is formed. culture has really nothing to do with it, and also language is of minor importance. I live in the netherlands, as you probably know a very small country, we have one major language, but another 4 or 5 other OFFICIAL languages.

You say a unified europe isnt happening anytime soon, I wonder what you mean by "anytime" because we are already very close, I think it will take about 50 years before europe has about the same political build up as the US.

The french are already not bad at english, though alot of the time they pretend they cant speak it to be annoying cunts. I read somewere 55% (might of even been 65%) of people in europe can hold a conversation in English which is amazing. Allthough i Hope none of the european languages die out, I think its a good thing English is gettin taught around europe alot.

I also think the British should learn other languages alot more. Britain is by far the worst country in Europe for learning other languages, where something like 50% of germans can speak a second language to an extent! Only 9% of British can speak another language.

I think at last Britain is starting to side more with the EU than the US now after the IRAQ war which really has been a bad idea overall. And throughout it The US didn't listen to any suggestions from Britain or any of the Coalition even so Britain Put Huge amounts in!

As for the EU becoming as big as the US. Nearly in everyway apart from Military the EU already is.

Although some of the EU countries have very powerful forces (mostly Britain an France)
There is no need for one at the moment. The EU uses Soft force. More And more countries listen to the EU more than US now. the EU has much better relations with Russia and south america .etc

I can see the EU growing huge. And hopefully The EU and the US will stay allies.

You know in Cellar's defense I think his posts are starting to become less abusive lately. But you are right; nature abhors a vacuum so maybe emmytee is taking Cellar's place!

True, but in 50 years I think the US will have the political clout that Europe has now (which is to say Europe will remain a second-rate power). India, China, Korea and Japan (in that order, unless the Koreas reunify then switch it with Japan) will be the ones who will have ascended to highest points of political clout.

We are witnessing the decline of US and Western civ...(kindof like Rome...)

.. I lived in Germany for a semester and studied the EU the entire time.. Sole reason I know anything about it, really.
