It depends if you mean legally a child or like an 8 year old. There is a big difference.

Legally, a person is a child until the age of 13. At this point they become adolecents until the age of 18. From the age of 18 to the mid 20's, people come to an end of development and are considered adults.

*note that there are always exceptions where a child who is under 13 begin to devlop early and that some adults may not finish developing until their early 30's.

It's the legal definition of adolescent, not mine. Ask a government official. I personally think that it's not ok to even consider having sex until over the age of 16 1/2. At this point (in Massachusetts anyways) people start to earn adult privledges such as driving. From this point, I think it's ok to start to trust kids to make smart decisions. Besides, this is roughly the time frame that most kids become really curious about their bodies and sexually active anyways.

Whether the age of consent is lowered or not, it's not fair for kids who are 18 that want to have sex with there more than willing girlfriends who are 17 to be labeled sex offender if they get caught by someone. It's also not fair when girls go around telling guys that they're older than they really are just so they CAN have sex. Be honest, girls these days who are 15 don't look 15.

Well if it's within reason and is actually consentual, I have to say that I'm hard-pressed to find something wrong with it. For most of our evolutionary history, there was nothing uncommon about women bearing children at the age of 13. Even in the bible, girls are married off when they're 12.

Of course, an actual case of consent is very, very rare, if it even exists at all. And we REALLY can not judge whether a child is mentally capable of making a decision. I think pedophilia laws are in place for a damn good reason. We shouldn't change the law and risk destroying innocent childrens' lives based on the slim possibility that a child MIGHT be fully intellectually mature and consenting.

Kind of harsh, considering Pedophilia is classified as a mental illness. I don't see a problem with pedophilia itself, just as long as the pedophile never acts on his impulses.
