Yes, but that is because they are opressive, if it is a aristocracy supported by the people, it works. And there are many african democracies that don't bring them wealth.

the nazis improved germany's economy. and the soviet union collapsed because their economy went to hell after they tried to support the communist regime in afghanistan. the reason the U.S. came out of WWI and WWII in such good shape was a mixture of location and timing. we didn't enter WWI until pretty late into it, and there was no way for the central powers to carry out an attack on the united states. in WWII we were attacked by the japanese, but we were caught off guard expecting them to attack somewhere in southeast asia after we stopped shipping to them. plus they were a naval superpower, and the coasts of the u.s. are too large to blockade, and even if you managed to do so, you'd just be wasting resources since there isn't really anything you could stop the americans from getting. also, the U.S. had (and probably still has. easy enough to convert your car factories to whip out tanks and planes) industrial capabilities greater than the rest of the world combined, and our cities and industrial centers aren't centralized, so there isn't a way to easily paralyze the country. that's one of the things that won the revolutionary war

not really. when the U.S. was founded, one of the greatest fears among people was that it was going to degenerate into anarchy and everyone was going to kill each other. and it sort of did happen right before the civil war. that's when john brown's army basically went through kansas on a killing spree

You're right. Anarchy may not be the best form of government, but it's still interesting (and a bit humorous) to see how it plays out.
