Republicans have a habit of putting thier foot in thier mouths and Democrats have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot. The Republicans lost many voters because of the war. Bush lost support from some by taking responsibility for Katrina (Not mine, it takes a real man to take responsibility for something, even if he is an idiot). Republicans lost the House and it was projected that they would soon lose the Senate and the Presidancy. The Democrats had a door wide open to take over. Then what do they do? Some asshole tries to re-instate the draft. Democrats, realizing the potential danger in this, quickly shoot him down. I'm pretty sure the next eight years are going to be hell. Anyway, does anyone know stuff about Nader? I think my vote may shift to the independant, both Democrats (the party, not the voters) and Republicans (the party, not the voters) are a little bit too stupid for my vote >:(

The Republicans lost the Senate, but it was by the thinnest of margins.
Many would say Bush lost support because he did NOT take responsibility for Katrina at best, and was non-responsive at worst. (Never mind that Ray Nagin dropped the ball, then the Governor of LA...then the Federal overnment)
Rangall's draft bill was proposed after they re-gained the House and Senate. However, he has long been in favor of the draft; in 2003 he authored a House Bill to reinstate it. He is playing the race and class card with calling for the draft.
Hell? Maybe not that bad, the government that governs best governs least. A split government like this will not be able to do much.
I don't like Nader because he will take us far to the Left. I want to see a party that is where I am: right in the middle.

After reading the opening post, I went back through my own post history looking for something I said shortly after the November elections....

I hope you all enjoy this little "victory" while it lasts, because in a month's time -- if not sooner -- you'll all be back to gripping about how we need a change in washington and how there's really no difference between the Republicans and Democrats anyways.
OMG I WAS RIGHT!!!

Actually, it is the standard patterns for the party opposite the President to make gains in the midterm elections. It has happened for far more than 80% of presidents in the past century.
Unresponsiveness has really hurt the current Republicans, though, and that's the big thing that caused the retaliation votes in the past election. However, this almost always happens, so it isn't too amazing, like the news media keeps claiming.
