1. How should this nation treat buisnesses and corperations?
The larger, the harsher. I'm getting sick from large corporations gettign a luxury treatment because they supported the ruling politician's campaign...
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
Basic health care should be cheap, ans health insurance should be available to all.
The poor deserve food (stamps), a place to live,...
Scholarship should be available to anyone who meets the requirements, i.e. pass the examination required to enter the university. The future of a nation is built on a quality educational system.
3. How should government treat public education?
see the above
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
Church and state should be completely separated.
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
By selling drugs in goverment-authorised shops, controlling the prizes and the amounts sold, you'd be able to stem the amount of criminalty flowing forth from drugs. Pot should definetely be legal. Alcohol is much more dangerous, a hard drug in fact, yet it's legal because it is socially accepted.
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
Health care, support for the poor and disabled, a decent educational system, and communication systems.
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Firemen, infrastructure, and the above.
Don't state what you are, just answer these and I will respond.
Okay, I hope it'll be interesting.

Stay the fuck out. Whenever you give government authority to dictate what a business does it tends to want more say. This leads to problems because it usually results in more harm than good. However, laissez-faire economics doesn't work all too well either. So I say decrease the amount of power the government has without having anarchy. For example, I have no problem having the government regulate what environments the company can dump their waste, but the government shouldn't say what benefits or wage the company should pay their workers.
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
The government shouldn't care at all. It's not the government's purpose to ensure everyone who lives comfortably.
3. How should government treat public education?
Abolish it altogether.
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
I am apathetic in this case. The Constitution doesn't have Seperation of Church and State in it and all it says is it shall not favor one religion over the other. If a politicians has religious prinicipals they would like to bring into government then let them; considering they're elected by the people and reflect that people's ideas.
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
In a democracy the majority rules.
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
Think nothing of it.
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
No interference.
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
What drugs are sold should be up to the company who deals in this area. The government shouldn't say what narcotics are illegal and are not. Let people decide for themselves what's good and what's bad.
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
Protection from foreign and domestic threats. That's about all I have to say.
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Financing the military, policemen and firemen. That's about it.

Small businesses should be left alone. Big corperations need to be penalized for mistreating their employees or outsourcing while closing off jobs for cheaping labor.
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
There should be no line between rich, middle, and poor. Welfare should be given more based on income (so that being lower middle class isn't worse than being upper lower class).
3. How should government treat public education?
STOP LOWERING STANDARDS!
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
I don't mind someone bringing their beliefs into politics (as everyone has beliefs) so long as they aren't crazy...
In a nutshell: Keep as is (altho, I think anyone should be able to pray whenever they want in public schools to themselves or say God when they want as that would be free speech).
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
I'd prefer based on vote of majority. A lot of times, we suspend the rights of the majority in order to place the minority higher, which doesn't make much sense in a so-called democracy.
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
Treat it like elections. The more votes wins.
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
Everyone should be required to be able to read english. If they're driving the streets of the US, they better damn well know how to read the street signs.
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
Illegal, but the government should be concerned about more important things.
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
A strong Federal government who regulates rather than wastes money.
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Education and technology.

At 11/26/06 10:09 PM, SirXVII wrote: 1. How should this nation treat buisnesses and corperations?
I think that businesses and corporations should be closely watched by the government, but given a fair amount of freedom with relatively little regulation. There needs to be a balance between business, government and labor/citizenry. If one of the three becomes too powerful and/or corrupt, the country could easily be sent into turmoil.
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
I think the government should try to educate the poor, unemployed and/or homeless. Other than that, I believe that it's mostly up to the citizenry to provide money to the needy. Of course, there are times when the government might need to intervene in extreme cases of neglect where there's no real chance of the situation getting any better soon.
As for those who cannot afford college and the issue of health care, I can't really give an opinion that I can pretend is informed, I simply haven't looked into those issues that much recently; I've been focusing my attention more on political, religious and/or philosophical movements and key leaders of them in various countries.
3. How should government treat public education?
Ugh. In a lot of areas, the whole thing's a mess. Parents, teachers and students need to work harder and be less apathetic for one thing. The government should also stop slashing into educational programs. I think their need to be more specialty schools around the secondary education level to teach kids who excel in certain academic areas how to use those skills in a small variety of jobs most suitable for them; although that's an idea I've been toying with lately.
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
The government should respect the beliefs and practices of those who are either religious or secular. If a child has to miss school because of a religious holiday or event, then they should be excused from school on the days that they have to miss. I don't think that there's a place for the Ten Commandments in non-religious schools or courts of law. It just doesn't seem to fit to me in general. Also, I think Intelligent Design should be part of a class on, let's say, Philosophy. Intelligent Design has no place in a SCIENCE class; and to me that's more of a separation of philosophy and science than church and state.
That's about all I have to say about that.
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
I think individual representatives should stay with their constituency and campaign promises; and focus on what's best for the nation as a whole. Politicians should try to serve the majority, but in a way that allows the minority to still be happy and free (unless said minority is radical and militant).
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
They should try to do what they believe is best for the nation and/or what their constituency wants.
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
They should treat them with respect and try to unify them as one, hopefully prosperous, nation.
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
Eh, I think that they should all be legal, but with heavy regulation and taxation; perhaps even bump up some of the age limits into the mid-to-late twenties for drugs like heroine and meth.
I'd prefer kids getting high off some weed than some kids dying from the choking "game."
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
Protection, unity, a feeling that something might actually get done.
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Education, public works, perhaps some of it sent to charities or given as aid to needy areas (preferably the aid would be used to try establishing infrastructure).

I don't think I believe you.
I abhor the Democrat party and have never yet found a Liberal who I completely agreed with on any point. The liberals I know are the source of Welfare, Social Security, huge government, widespread drug addictions, emotional voters, wasteful government "social" programs, institutionalized pro-minority bigotry, Communism, and a belief in never accepting blame for your own actions. I hate those things.
I want small government-- just protection, R&D, and public works. I am opposed to "social" programs, and only tolerate them as very temporary measures until individuals can support themselves. Personal responsibility and self-improvement are paramount. Education needs to be a major priority because America is losing its competitive edge in a global market, and all of that "self esteem" teaching in California is bullocks. I severely dislike emotional people, and rely almost entirely on logical thinking when I can manage it-- which is why I am essentially athiestic. I don't see the point in forcing social change that in unnecessary, and I try to completely ignore race as a factor in anything.
So how exactly am I a classic liberal again? Nothing I know about politics agrees with you.

1. How should this nation treat buisnesses and corperations?
-------Respectfully. Corporations make a country move. Even if some are a necessary evil
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
-------With care, housing, financial aid, and other services that will get them on their feet.
3. How should government treat public education?
-------public education offers a wider variety of people types to be dealt with. They need help, and alotta. Just don't forget the private schools.
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
-------As religious as I am, I thing the seperation is a good thing. However, government should stop the obvious steps it is taking to furthering itself from its religious roots.
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
-------I'll put two answers here.
1: If it refers to public opinion, I believe that the majority should receive what they asked for, but the minority should still have compensation.
2: If you are somehow referring to race, Then treat all the same. Differences in policies are what make racial orders so thick.
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
-------With a compromise (Oh Henry Clay... Though art missed)
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
-------REFER TO ANSWER 2, QUESTION 5.
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
-------I've seen too many people throwing their lives and state of mind away to "Harmless" drugs "just for fun" to want them to even exist.
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
-------Health care, support for the poor, Money for education, fair tax rates, and many things having to do with Unions.
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
-------In my area? Roads. We have a major road issue in Rockland County, NY. That and zoning. protect the woods.
Don't state what you are, just answer these and I will respond.
-------Will you send us answers via personal mail?

Classic Liberals were those in the early 1900's who believed that there should be absolutely no government regulation at all... unlike today's liberals.

Regulated to ensure fair treatment of employees, and to keep the playing field even.
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
Programs to get the poor on their feet, not handouts however. College should be free. Social housing for the truly needy.
3. How should government treat public education?
4. How should government treat the separation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
Should support the rights of religions to practice freely within the bounds of reason and the moral majority.(no human sacrifices, etc)
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
Equally protect the rights of both groups.
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
If the idea does no harm to the majorty, it should be protected.
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
Protect the rights of the individual...

Depends on the drug, and the harm on socity. Pot should be controled same as booze and tobacco.

10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?

As an individual citizen; holding them to the same laws as such.
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
This is best handled by Churches and other examples of private, community based charities. The people closest to these individuals are best qualified to handle these issues.
3. How should government treat public education?
The Federal government should be removed from it outside of the highest level of oversight. State government should have oversight over the individual school districts. Elected school boards and paid administrators should run the schools.
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
They are seperate; however it could stand to be a little looser than it is currently but only by the smallest of degrees. But we should constantly be on guard against tearing down the wall between church and state (I see less bad in it being stricter than I see the bad in it being more loose).
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
The majority rules, but it is the responsibility of those elected by the majority to ensure the rights of the minority are not opressed.
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
With whichever serves the interests of the society/government more.
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
It should be blind to the first two, but cultures need to be assimilated for the sake of stability, security and the continuance of the Republic.
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
Depends on the drug. Liquor and pot are fine by me; but not the real heavy narcotics.
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
Security, rule of law, freedom: you know life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Security
Foreign policy
Public services/utilities (more of a local thing)

After reading up on that, it sounds significantly more reasonable. I completely misunderstood what he said-- I thought "you're a classic liberal" meant "you exactly fit the stereotype of a liberal," not that Classic Liberal was a political category.

Here's my answers for you. Keep in mind i'm British so obviously i have a higher tendancy to be more "left-winged" than my American counter-parts.
1. How should this nation treat buisnesses and corperations?
Businesses shoud have some form of restrictions in order to protect the population from bad business practises. Also, there should not be any form of monopoly as one business possessing all of the market share ultimately means that the general public will suffer from extortionate prices etc.
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
Ultimately the "poor", or working class, are the majority of the population and so should be protected. Health care should be free at the point of use (payed for by taxes) as should education (including higher education). Without free education and healthcare the population can never truly prosper.
3. How should government treat public education?
The government should fund all forms of education, get rid of private education and aim to make sure all the institutions are above a certain level of quality. Afterall what's better? 5 universities where one has a superb quality while the others have poor quality or all universities have an above average quality?
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser?
While the government should not endorse any ideals/laws directly inspired by any religion people should always be free to have their own religious beliefs.
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority?
The majority should be listened to and their wishes should happen aslong as it does not negitively impact the minority. All minorities should be protected from the majority although each person, regardless of views/origin etc should all be equal.
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
It ultimately depends on what idea. If any idea negatively impacts another's rights then under no circumstances should it be endorsed by the government.
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
People of all religion, race, cultures etc should be equal. While people will be allowed to state negative opinions about a particular group any media outlet which is in the public domain should be restricted from publishing potentially descriminatory comments about said group.
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
It depends on the drugs lethality. I personally believe it is idiotic to have alcohol legal (which causes many negative problems in society e.g. violence) while cannabis illegal.
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
The government should provide both a voice and support to ALL citizens regardless of race, religion, wealth etc.
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Taxes should be spent on several things. The mainfour tend to be healthcare, education, security and freedom.
In general a government which does not provide these to all its citizens does not deserve to be in power.

Exactly what I've said for a while, basically what that means. Where are you from?

what, couldn't help but throw in the worthless ad-hominem attack could you. I can see your point though, the idea economic liberty should be restored and the government reduced to its originally intended function (protection of life, liberty, and property) instead of micro-managing and redistributing justly aquired private property is a radical and idiotic notion.
I'm guessing it was the comment regarding public education that resulted in that comment, and I will admit that it may seem radical on its surface. I suggested that we adopt a model of education similar to what exists in Belgium, privately owned and operating competing schools that offer free education in exchange for public money given to the school based on its attendance.
This model forces schools to compete with one another for students, thus resulting in greater quality at a far fewer taxpayer dollars, while still providing free education for its citizens.
and its libertarian by the way

I'm not american so i have a different THIS nation
1. How should this nation treat buisnesses and corperations?
They should give them to goverment control
2. How should government treat the poor, those without health care, those who cannot afford college, and those who have no where to live?
Supply them with these for free. give them jobs & equal oppurtunities none of this you need an address to get a job crap (although i suppose that's tackled in the supplied home)
3. How should government treat public education?
Free. supplied.
4. How should government treat the seperation of church and state? Should it be stricter? Should it be looser? Amn't too familiar with this one... no comment until further notice
5. How should government respond to the majority? How should they respond to the minority? Equally. No special rights either way
6. If a minority idea conflicts with a majority idea then how should government respond to it?
I suppose it would depend what that idea is
7. How should government treat religion, race, and cultures in this country?
Completely equal so long as one doesn't deprive another of its rights
8. What about drugs? Should the be legal or illegal? Should pot be legal or illegal?
Legal. Unless it is a threat to someone else eg. smoking
9. What are the main things you think government should provide?
The essentials. House food water job equality
10. In general, what are the major things you think your tax money should be used for?
Depends what the area is in need of. The essentials for those who need them first.
