Recently Peter Arnett was fired for making anti-U.S. comments in an interview with Iraqi officials.
Geraldo Rivera was also sent back to Kuwait after drawing a map in the sand and reporting U.S. troop positions during a live report. They literally came up to him and stuck him on a water truck heading back to Kuwait.
What are your thoughts on these incidents?

I'm not surprised with Geraldo's case, I'm wondering if there's more about Arnett than has been told, journalists stick up for eachother...

If nothing else, Peter proves that the jingoism is running as rampant as ever, and we face a critical time. It would also show to us that we do indeed have biased media(though it should be no suprise) and they hold a some petty relationship with the government of the US, rather than the people of the country.
Geraldo's an idiot.
Need a hot dicking?

Geraldo needs to go back to trashy talk shows. He clearly doesn’t have the integrity or the intelligence for read news work!
Arnett just needs to keep his damn mouth shut. He doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about.

i think its disgusting. america is supposed to be the land of the free and they censor their press very heavily. americans as a general group of people have some good points, but they are very naieve due to this. they believe everything their government says blindly, purely becaue the news always agrees with the president because the president will have anyone that prints something that critisizes him arrested.

Peter Arnett was a journalist and not a military expert. Therefore, he had no business making any predictions about the war.
As for Geraldo...I heard FOX didn't even bother to fire him. Has that changed? Seeing as how FOX is the sensationalist network, maybe they'd want to keep him for that reason.

Did he make anti-American comments? I thought he just said that the original military plan didn't work - and he was right in the sense that the Americans fully expected a much higher number of surrenders and defections. I think he made an honest assessment and was unfairly victimized for not feeding the public complete and utter America rah-rah optimism.

Thank God, I just hope this means I won't ever have to see him on my TV again.

If seen in the proper light, Geraldo could be lined up and shot for treason, which wouldn't be such a bad idea because the man is a moron.
As for Peter Arnett, he was out of line making those comments seeing as he is supposed to be objectively reporting the news, not telling it to the Iraqi people.

He already did that, and spent forever getting a permit to excavate the area he thought it was in. He turned up nothing.

Arnett was out of line, completely out of line doing what he did. You're a journalist, and by having that profession, it's your job to keep personal opinion out of reports and stick to the facts. Sure, free speech is easy to shout, but it just crosses the professional lines. Then to be scooped up by an anti-war newspaper only makes it seem like he has no grounding. The predictions were a huge mistake and now he's going to be branded a traitor by everyone for a long time to come.
