This in no way related to homosexuality in humans bar the fact that it is often used as a pro--homosexuality point.
If they aren't mating for pleasure animals are only mating for the survival of the species, now two male hedgehogs can fuck until the gay cows come home, they aren't going to produce offspring.
This means the hedgehogs must be mentally unbalanced to believe that this will produce offspring for that is the only reason for them to do it.
The only reason I can imagine for homosexuality in animals, though it produces no pleasure nor offspring besides insanity is to shut the little gay hedgehog up is to give him a root now and again.
I call this the British Woman Theory
Now disregarding this theory, all other possible examples of homosexuality in animals is due to insanity, which may be caused by a number of reasons, the most prominent probably being lack of a female
Couldn't possibly agree with such a conclusion.
It's hormones - or mistaken identity (all that fur!) or both (hormones occluding the animal's sense perceptions).
Now "blinded by hormones" might lead to "insanity by hormone overload" i grant you.
lol. All those "animals can be gay too" points piss me off.
good point
Its...possible.
I wouldnt go as far as insanity. Some mild mental instibility.
But some creatures in a number of spiecies may be so stupid that they mistaken a male for a female. And lets not forget that many different creatures can change sex in single sex invironments. So mistaken the sex of an animal can contribute to your theory.

Some animals mate for life, and monogamy isn't a survival-only instinct. After all, the genetic health of a population is improved by healthy males mating with multiple females. But creatures which mate for life have an emotional component that goes beyond momentary coitus or the temporary responsibilities of raising offspring. While I find the "animals are gay too so it's okay" argument specious, I don't think that homosexual behavior in lesser animals is a sign of mental instability. Look at Silo and Roy in the Central Park Zoo. They were companions more than anything else, and when an opportunity to mate with a female arose, one of them (I think it was Silo) went for it. But other "gay" penguins have proven unwilling to mate with females.
In animal relationships just as in human, sex is not the sole determining factor. It's wrong to oversimplify procreation when it's one of the most complicated processes in most species' lives.
He followed me home, can I keep him?
I even think homosexuality exists in animals. Not to say animals don't screw one another of the same sex, but usually humping and mating translates into dominance for animals. So when you see a dog dry-humping a plant it's usually trying to vent its dominance. The same can be applied to animals that fuck the same sex.
Well, it isn't insanity. It's merely mental defect (i.e. someone with Attention Deficit Disorder isn't crazy).
I demand scientific proof.
R.I.P LIVECORPSE
As far as I know, homosexuality has never actually been proven as a widespread or significant occurance in the natural world. Bisexuality, on the other hand, is relatively well known and mostly based on sex, not attraction toward the same gender.
lol, its leik, teh animals leifsyle choice u homofobe!1!
I find some of this hard to believe as homosexuality is found in Chimps, however, it is not in the interest of reproduction or pleasure. It's pretty much the equivalent to me shaking your hand saying "hello there sir, OH no! don't mind me, just testing out your anus.)
"In one case, it is stated [12] that following a bird impact with a window, Kees Moeliker of Rotterdam, Netherlands, observed sexual activities[13] outside between a live duck and a dead one. He states that the living drake picked at the corpse of the dead one (also male) for a few minutes and then, without provocation, it mounted the corpse and began copulating with it. The act of necrophilia lasted for about 75 minutes, in which time, according to Moeliker, the living drake took two short breaks before resuming with copulating behavior. There is currently no scientific research able to verify certain other assumptions as to motive, which were made by Mr. Moeliker." ~from wikipedia
Gay necropheliac ducks are insane
Animal homosexuality is just an excuse for homosexual humans to have homosex. :S

Well...it's more like imposing human thoughts, feelings, and desires onto animals. To me, that's not right.
