Grunge forum design, opinions? 2006-11-18 12:17:13 Reply

I was playing about in photoshop with type and some textures and ended up making this. I've made forum design before but they've always been the standard layout, thought I'd try something different out with this. I had to resize it from 750px wide to 595px to fit in the attachment size.

Any opinions, on layout, style, type etc?

Pretty sweet, but I think you should have an off-white background. The white doesn't really fit.

really good, although i disagree with the last post, i dont think it needs a different colour in background, but simply more stuff, it looks kind of empty...

Oops, my comp accedently posted.

I think the layout looks great, but the "on-topic" squiggly bit (below the info about it.) appears to not have any of the rusty effect. I love the fonts used, makes it look really neat.

Could I get a link to forum?

Hmm...

Good point, I see what you mean now. Yeah, try sticking another thing below the 3 forums, like a picture, or something.

That's due to the layer blends, anything other than white shows the textures I used :) But I wanted the high contrast anyway.

I aimed for simple, it seems like most forums are about stats and information, so I decided to keep this simple.

I never noticed the lack of rust, thanks for pointing it out :)

I've been getting into typography lately, so I tried to make this look a bit more unique.

Do you mean a link to the forum with this design? It doesn't exist, I just made this for fun.

How is this going to scale when there are more posts?

The colors and general design are good, but not QUITE there. You can really tell it's photoshopped and made up of vector objects. Not sure if that's intentional or not. The black shapes are also cool, but leave a lingering, "what are they". Tendrils? Not quite. Tears? Too vector-y. I just don't think that having the huge ... black... vector things are entirely spacially efficient or necesary because they stand out so much and don't really convey anything.

Just my thoughts...
