I had the exact same reaction, but upon several re-reads, I came to the conclusion that no one can be stupid enough to write what I think I just read.
Popped over to other websites that kids go to like Gaia and myspace the learn some sort of reason why someone would say something like that.

THEN, I came to the brilliant conclusion that they're trying to be funny. He was talking about Tom in pictures, and that Tom doesn't need to point out that he's in a picture, because he's so well-known that we'd know him even if he were to somehow turn into a flying squirrel(ha adds how weird that would be too).
