Umm... think again. We've had the single most prominent attack done to us, but we have not lost by FAR the most people to terrorism.
you don't know how funny this statement is.That most of us blame the USA and can hate your people? It is true, but as I said, I was for the US. Yes I did say this fact and that I am not at best terms with America (well, mostly the Bush government, but than again it is my opinion). I was admiring americas success and that they have done a fair job as world super powers.
That's not why it was funny.
Tis better to sit in silence and be presumed a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

At 3/6/07 10:16 PM, yodd wrote: Than again cellardoor, US has quite a few more people than Canada and they should have more troops because that fact and it is their war.
First of all, it's not just America's war, as Imperator showed with his excessive amount of links.
Yes, the US has more people. But I wasn't dissing on Canada's small amount of troops, I was focusing my criticism on the the Europeans who have done basically jackshit in Afghanistan. Italy, France, and Germany specifically have only provided minuscule amounts of troops in relation to their military, and have refused to deploy their troops to combat zones. They just chill in the safe areas to avoid casualties.
Canada has a very small military and an even smaller amount of ground forces, I'm not certain, but I think Canada only has a few battalions of combat forces, so that would mean 2,500 troops is about 1/4th of Canada's troops trained for ground combat. So that is a pretty reasonable contribution especially if you consider that only the US, the UK, Canada and the Netherlands have had troops in combat in Afghanistan.
Besides, I think if it was only America partolling there it would be all under control either way.
Well, it's not as simple as that. It doesn't matter how powerful the US military is, because the conflict in Afghanistan isn't a full scale war, it's counter-insurgency and in order for it to work you need a large amount of forces to occupy the country and disperse among the population.
The US took the Taliban out of power in only a few months with only a 3000 special forces, something the Soviets couldn't do in 10 years with over 1 million troops. But that is what the US is good at, defeating a clear enemy. But its going to take a lot more troops to completely secure the country and prevent the Taliban from retaking some areas, because you can't fight the Taliban without a lot of troops when they are hiding among civilians. You have to root them out with ground forces.
Since the US has 150,000 troops in Iraq, and 21,000 troops in Afghanistan, and tens of thousands more in Japan, Korea, Germany, etc.. it's not unreasonable to expect NATO countries to participate and help out to the best of their ability.
It's ridiculous that even though all of NATO would benefit from a free and stable Afghanistan, they expect the US to do the most of the work. So they want to reap the benefits, but not make any of the sacrifices necessary to create the benefits.
In my opinion, not many more troops would be needed from other countries.
Well NATO and the UN said that more troops are needed, thousands of more troops. But the main issue is not numbers to be deployed, but what to do with the ones that are already there.
What needs to be done is for the countries who already have troops to actually use them instead of hiding behind the US and pretending to participate. France, Italy, and Germany specifically have done practically nothing. They can afford to send more troops, and actually use them, but right now they have refused to allow their troops to be deployed to the areas where they are actually needed. They just stay in the peaceful north west of Afghanistan, far from where the Taliban actually are.
Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:
-The compliant mainstream media for their pro-Obama propaganda.
-Black Panthers for their intimidation of voters.

Alphabit you need to understand. America is full of psychopaths. Since Alcohol is fibulas and the drinking age in the USA is higher than most places they’ve gone mad.
Reality
RE-AL-ITY
An illusion brought on by a lack of alcohol.
You see it makes perfect sense. Not only coupled with the fact that they are driving auto’s on cheaply made cars going perfectly straight knowing that getting the MPG to double figures isn’t going to happen because they drive huge cars for no reason (possibly because they are compensating for something) will cause an acute case of what I call
Americdimentia.
It’s rare anywhere else but if they go to Greece (not the movie the country) Go nuts with a manual on those REALLY wavy roads and get drunk every night they might just be saved.
Simply put the world is full of arrogant people. Its just in this case there are more of them lolol

the contribution from the allies was next to nothing.
US did the most in WWII.
the US was the largest contributing factor.
both had to depend on the US to supply them with almost all of their war material.
US leading the allies on the western front (with about 70% of the troops)
Mediterranean (with about 50% of the troops)
1/3rd of the forces in Africa.
Russia and the British did basically nothing to fight Japan,
allies defeated Germany only with massive amounts of US aide (almost their entire forces)
the US doing the brunt of the fighting on the western front
it is just absurd to suggest that they had an equal role in allied victory in WWII.
The US fought In Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean while supplying all the allies
The US was the single largest contributor to allied victory in WWII, it's a simple fact.
This isn't arrogance, it is just a simple fact.
They may be the facts (most likely your rendition of them), but the fact that you present them in the way you do, after someone graciously thanks the US for their help shows that you are exactly what this thread is about. A proud person would have said "your welcome", but the arrogant side (Cellardoor6) of the USA says stuff like "we did it all", "the allies were useless without us" or "if it weren't for us the world would be speaking German".
Then when someone simply reveals these facts, the only thing people can do to salvage their national pride is accuse the person of arrogance even though all they did was state the facts.
But they didn't need to be revealed is the point. The fact that you shout out your accomplishments the way you always do shows your arrogance.
There are 37 countries involved in the "war on terror" in Afghanistan right now. It's a safe bet that alot of them are European countries. So it's not like NATO - let alone the Europeans - are doing their utmost to assist the US in Afghanistan. The rest of the countries who pretend they are helping have only provided token forces to uphold their obligation to NATO, but do as little as possible.
Yeah... what a full hearted contribution that is huh?
You don't even have the couth to thank the countries that are HELPING YOU. All you can do is point out how they aren't helping as much as you. Ungrateful arrogant american. Typical.
- A person who is arrogant often exaggerates one's own worth or importance in an overbearing manner.
- Often people who are arrogant are not aware of their own behavior or don't want to recognize they are arrogant.
- A strongly arrogant person will usually try to downplay other people's achievements or ideas in order to make himself appear better.

Seconded. I did have a grudging respect for cellardoor6. Even though we disagreed on issues, there was still worthwhile contributions incoming.
To be honest, i misseh that post on WWII, but seeing it transcribed here and now, thats torn apart any respect I had.
Let me lay down somewhat of an ace here. If you like bigging up the US's role in WWII, explain why you didnt jump into the fray in september 1939?

Explain why Britain and France didn't either, considering they were bitching the most when Hitler decided to re-arm Germany.......not to mention the promise to come to Poland's aid was never fulfilled.....

They huffed and puffed, then went home and waited for Hitler to shove his boot up their asses.
Luckily the US provided band-aids........and then brought a bigger boot to shove up Hitler's ass.......

I might be missing something, but doesn't the graph say the US and EU are tied with 17%? Though, it wouldn't surprise me if Europe had a higher amount due to them have 2.5x our population.

Best? No... the EU's economy is BIGGER in monetary terms. But the US economy is still better because it has a higher growth rate and less dependence on foreign investment. The US will overtake the EU at the end of 2007 in GDP because of higher growth. The EU only overtook the US in the first place because it kept accepting more and more countries into the union and each country's GDP was added on to the posted total GDP.
But even now, the EU's GDP is only slightly higher than the US, even though the the EU has 200 million more people than the US. EU has 500 million, the US as 300 million. And even though the EU is projected to grow by more in population than the US in 2007, the US economic growth will still outpace it. The average EU economic growth rate is around 1.5% I think, the US economic growth rate (depending on different estimates) is between 2.5% and 3.5%. The US was thought to have had a recession in the first quarter of this year but that didn't happen, but even if it did, US growth always usually picks up pace from June to january.
The EU has a BIGGER economy right now because it has 60% more people than the US does. But the US economy is still stronger.

Personally i would say our scandinavian living standards show our greatness compared to the US standard. Aswell as the amount of damage we do compared to theirs.
Don't make me laugh! While I am not a huge fan of the Americans, I think Europe is pretty much a sucky place. I know it, I have lived there. Europe is a place such that, no matter how hard you study, no matter how hard you work, you will actually never achieve anything. Any piece of shit home of around 30 square meters (around 90 feet) costs around 400,000 euros. WTF!?? Every single European I have met live in dark, smelly ghettos. Everything is too damn expensive, and quality too damn bad. People rarely earn above 1,500 euros a month, which barely allows them to survive through to the next month.
And funny thing is, Europeans say money is not important, because they have culture. What culture? I come froma South American nation and I speak 4 languages! In Europe I didn't meet anyone who could speak any language beyond their own. In fact, most people behaved like retards, drinking far too much alcohol and smoking a lot of pot. LOL! Culture? My ass.
It is stupid to clasify countries between 1st and 3rd world nations, given that plenty of 1st world nations aren't really doing any better with their problems.
