I know this may suprise many of you who know my stances on America and the rest of the world, but yes, I do think America does indeed suck. Excuse me, this will be a rant and I really dont give a hell if its not responded to, no one looks at it, or whatever. I just need to organize my thoughts and write them down.
What was once an experiment in uplifiting the human spirit has now degraded to choosing between turds and douches, as South Park so eloquently put it. What has happened to this country? What has brought us so low?
Just as Rome and Greece were overrun by barbarians, so to is America. Except in Americas case they are barbarians from within. They are barbarians wielding speech as their weapons and lies as their ally. They are barbarians wearning not animalskin but thousand dollar suits and million dollar smiles. They are barbarians known traditionally as Senator and Congressman and Mr. President.
Our forbearers have done us to well. They have made America great, they have made a country that will be remembered through the ages, like Rome was, for fundamnetally changing the dynamics of world affairs. The machine ran effectively and efficently. But through that greatness has come complacency. We the people let our elected officals escape with murder (literally in Ted Kennedys case). The machine is corroding.
The 109th Congress was in session for a total of only 94 days. Let that be repeated. The people who make our laws, the people who supposedly run our country, were in session for only 94 days this year. At one of the most important crossroads in our countries history our Congressmen and Senators are in session for record low numbers of days? Do they really care that little for our country that the majority of their time is spent away from the Capitol?
And according to Citizens Against Government Waste, there has been close to ten thousand pork projects this year alone for a total of $29 BILLION. Our barbarians in Washington are using our tax money to help them buy our votes? When did the machine become so proficient at serving itself with our money?
The Senator base salary nowadays is $168,500. While the money is good, nothing compares to the reward a true patriot should recieve from the simple fact he is serving. It doesnt seem, however, that mindset is the most prevalent nowadays. From the Abramoff scandal to the Cunningham scandal to the Jefferson scandal, our lawmakers have demonstrated a willingness to sell out like never before. The scary part is this is just the tip of the iceberg. Apparently that is what happens when we elect the equivalent of upper class car salesmen to public office.
Since around early 2005 I tentatively held hope of a third party uprising. Not a huge uprising but at least a statistically significant one. The Republicans have proven themselves as little more than Democrats with tax cuts while the Democrats have proven themselves as the party thats not Republicans. Well, at the very least you cant blame the Democrats for aiming to high. With that all in mind, I was hoping people would finally come to their senses and realize nothing would change as long as we keep electing the same barbarians with the same tired ideas to public office.
Its safe to say this election has crushed my hopes. If the populace cannot even recgonize the self mutilitaing spiral that is partisan politics that we continue to enter into, under our present circumstances, I hold little hope of ever escaping it. Partisan politics is like a black hole, the more it seemingly comes under attack the stronger its pull. Just look at this election, the Democrats were handed the House and Senate under the sole premise of the mess in Iraq, never mind they contributed just as heavily for our involvement (and conundrum) there as did Republicans. Why?
America the country does not suck, America the people do not suck, its the barbarians in Washington D.C. that are killing our country bit by bit. Democrats, Republicans, lobbyists, lawyers, news media, the various flunkies and groupies who lick ass and and suck governmental cock to advance, they all are part of the machine that is destroying what was once an America that risked everything for freedom. Every one of those cogs in the governmental machine is destroying what was once a shining beacon of the tremendous nature of the human spirit.
I just ask two things of you all. Everyone read Common Sense for a reminder of where we came from and Demosthenes for where we are headed if we remain unchanged. Substitute Philip II for Washington D.C. and Demosthenes words have never rung truer. We are leading ourselves down a path of self destruction as long as we keep accepting "the lesser of two evils" from the leaders of our country. If even McDonalds wouldnt accept those hiring standards why the hell should we accept those hiring stanradrds from the leaders of our damned country?
My favorite quotes from Common Sense first and then Demosthenes second.
1) It hath been reported of the late Mr. Pelham (who tho' an able minister was not without his faults) that on his being attacked in the House of Commons on the score that his measures were only of a temporary kind, replied, "THEY WILL LAST MY TIME." Should a thought so fatal and unmanly possess the Colonies in the present contest, the name of ancestors will be remembered by future generations with detestation.
2) When, therefore, O my countrymen! when will you exert your vigor? When roused by some event? When forced by some necessity? What then are we to think of our present condition? To freemen, the disgrace attending on misconduct is, in my opinion, the most urgent necessity.
This election was insanely depressing for me. Even among kids my own age, there is no push towards third parties. If things continue this way, I think I just might move to some other country. I cant stand the state of affiars of our country, our government continues to become more elitist even as the decisions they make become increasingly worse. I stil am going to serve 4 years in the military but after that if nothing has changed, Im moving. I dont want to be represented by people and policies I am not proud of no matter how much I love this country.

My recommendation: Learn danish/swedish/norwegian and come to the paradise that is Scandinavia..
Some nice things in Denmark (i dont know too much about sweden and norway):
We have around 13 parties with the elected one only having the position due to the "need" to elect someone the leader of Denmark. Else they mostly only have as much power as their voters have given them.
We have a welfare society, and at the moment at least, we have a shortage of workers...
Taxes are high yes, but it is only fitting as we have free healthcare and help for pretty much everyone. There arent really anyone like the rich in America, and the rich are not as rich either, plus they dont get away with as much since the majority of the population is pro equality.
Also, when you look at the highest and the lowest in danish society theres a lesser difference than the shack the soviet worker and the palace stalin lived in.
Oh and we have a language thats very simelar to sweden and norway who are just as good.

it may be true about america but its still our country and we need to organize our shit we think of it as our home and every american as family if you ave a disfunctional family most of the time you try and fix it the constituion or some document ays if we ever disagree with the way our goverments run we have the right to replace every single corrupt official in our government and we can do it but most americans are to lazy to get off their ass and fight for what the future of what was once the greatest country in the world.we can do anything remember in the revolutionary war we beat england what was at the time an undefeatable country and all we were was a bunch of rebelious colonists.

I still cant understand how people can vote for people that dont represent their interests. All this election served as was a referendum against the Republican party. OK, I can understand not voting Republican but why the hell vote blindly Democrat?
Im not sure if it is institutional or the media or what, but people will just not vote third party. It is sad as hell. These people in Washington have institutionalized their power so much it is beyond comprehension. Even our conditioning has become conditioned.
Honestly, what would our founders think of us if they saw us now? We have almost completly abandoned what they set up and are now more concerned with partisan bickering and partisan victory than the real issue, the betterment of America and us as a whole. Its like Democrats and Republicans are sports teams except the sad part is the only damn team we should be on is America.
To much to ask for, isnt it?

Yes. Move to Canada. Being outside of America will show you how horrible the rest of the world is. By the way while your there you should check out canada's free healthcare and see how much less crime it has.
Are you suggesting America is the best place in the world?

Hm you have a point there... I love all you European bretheren :D
In terms of a 3rd party uprising, I notice a tendency of voters to be hesitant or avoidant of third parties much like citizens are hesitant or avoidant of anything which has to do with global warming... why is that?

I agree mojo. There's a tendency to jump on the popular bandwagon. Back in 94' it was Democrat, then it was Republican, now it's back to Democrat again apparently. It's like the whole nation is just focused on black and white and ignoring all the other shades of grey in between. Not to mention all the colors surrounding.

I agree.
There needs to be a significant 3rd party because their are millions of voters that have to compromise some of their beliefs in order to prioritize others and vote for Democrats or Republicans, Independents just get no credit.
I usually favor Republicans, and I think Democrats fucking suck. But I'm getting so tried of our fucked up political system. most people don't even know what they fuck they are voting about because the biased media is their sole source of information.
This is true in every other country, but come on, we're fucking America man. We can make something better.
But unfortunately for us, Democrats won the majority in Congress, say hello to higher taxes, less individual rights, less state rights, and a whole bunch of government intervention in every aspect of our lives. Democrats call Republicans corrupt, yet most people who voted for Democrats don't even realize what Democrats are actually like, most people only voted for Democrats as a protest against Republicans and certainly NOT out of approval for Democrats.
And so much of the rumors about Republicans being corrupt stem from frivolous lawsuits started by disgruntled Democrats who abuse the courts to settle political differences. Almost EVERY SINGLE case against Republicans that started by Democrats making accusations has ended with the case being dismissed. But people don't see this on the news, they just see "Republican in court today, Republican charged with this, republican charged with that".
I'm seriously pondering a revolution. We need a multi-party system and more power to an independent judicial branch. Democrats are corrupt, lying, deceptive psychopaths who want to destroy our founding principles.
Say goodbye to America, I'm moving to fucking Israel in 08 if A democrat becomes President.

I don't think a revolution is necessary. A change in the system you use to count votes should be sufficient to give some third party candidates a real chance at being elected. Under your first past the post system, the person with the most votes win. Lets say in some district Republicans get %45 of the vote, Democrats get 43% and the Greens get 12%. The 45% who voted Republican get represented in congress, the 55% who didn't vote Republican don't get represented. Under a proportional representation system (used very successfully around the world - New Zealand, much of Europe, South Africa I think, upper house of the Australian parliament to name a few), if a party gets 55% of the vote, they get 55% of the representation - not 100%. The same goes for minor parties. If they get 12% of the vote, they get 12% of the representation, not 0%.
This is a change that needn't be violent or revolutionary. New Zealand changed from a First Past The Post system to Proportional Representation in the early 90s after a couple of votes to decide if change was wanted, and if so what kind of change. The Australian upper house changed systems without much fanfare back in the 40s I think.

While I agree with you there, I'd also have to say that the Republicans (at least this administration) have been trying to push morals on people (such as no gay marriage and no abortion).
I am totally against gay marriage because it is totally disgusting to me, but I believe that it isn't in my place to ratify a law against it. However, I will defend a woman's rite to have an abortion. While I would not personally want my female counterpart to get an abortion, I defend the rite of other women to do so.
As far as the Dems are concerned, I disagree with raising taxes (when there are no positive outcomes to the whole ordeal), infringement upon personal/state rights, and multi-culti hogwash.
Say goodbye to America, I'm moving to fucking Israel in 08 if A democrat becomes President.
Why not Asia? There are no Blacks to bother you there, and they share your racial beliefs.

Well you're not an American so what do you know? You have the luxury of watching from the sidelines.
The US has some serious issues right now that we shouldn't have. This may be true in other countries, but the majority of Americans receive their political news from INCREDIBLY biased news organizations. Every single news organization in the US is affiliated with a political idealogy. And 90% of these news organizations are liberal and are owned or donated to by Democrats. Hell, the CEOs of the top news channels are all affiliated with Democrats.
People in the US aren't given a true, unbiased look at politics in the full context. They are given emotionally-charged rants by political pundits who want their viewers to vote democrat. The news system is no longer a source of information, its a source of recruiting people to a political cause.
Funny thing, a high percentage of people who voted for Democrats in this election didn't even know what their candidates stood for. They just vote AGAINST Republicans, instead of voting FOR Democrats. They were unaware of the actual issues, they were just brainwashed by the liberal media into voting for Democrats as an act of protest.
Meanwhile, the Americans who are fed up with both political parties (like myself) have no means of representation.
I blame it all on the media, the liberal media. Conservative media may be biased as well, but they actually talk about the issues, liberal news just resorts to "Republicans are evil, and the corporations, oil, Iraq, death, Hurricane Katrina, durrrr" without putting any of it into conext.
The media has bred an entire movement of brainwashed liberal vote-wielders who don't even know what the fuck they are voting for when they go to the polls.

That's completely untrue. You have moderate America surpasing fanaticism on both sides by a vast margin. No majority blindly follows what Kieth Olberman or CNN suggests, and no majority blindly follows what Sean Hannity and Fox News says.
If this election were a referendum against the Republican party, the government would not be divided as it is. The Democratic win is a symbolic one. The fact that Senator Lieberman was ousted by his own party for not being "partisan" enough, and ran and won over Ned Lamont as an independant speaks leaps and bounds that people actually vote outside party lines when they have incentive to.
Lobbying and Political Action Comitees may piss people off, but they're as American as apple pie. It's a privilage we are specifically endowed with. Lobbying has cleaned up our water, expanded business in the United States, and is now questioning Big Oil. For all it's faults, lobbying and special interest have done great goods in this country.
I pride the system we have much more over than many, if all, out there. Denmark is cool if you don't give two shits about the world and think apathy is the new "it".
I must lollerskate on this matter.

So you're pissed that there isn't a democrat for POTUS? In that regard, then yes, the voters that voted Bush are idiots, which is already a widely known fact. But you should be happy that there are different factions in the house, now the guy that all those idiots voted in way back when will have to answer to someone.
