Generally no. You put the preloader/intro on it... submit it and email the staff the link to your game.

The email addy is on their contest page.

Im already pretty far into mine, by far the best thing Ive ever made. But there was something on the first page of this thread about using audio from the audio portal. Is that frowned upon or something?

Hmm... trying to decide what I could do. I could do a sequel to Cap'n Zappy in the ol' format (avec improvements of course), although having said that, KaynSlamDyke has said it might be worth doing a Cap'n Zappy platformer. Of course, there's always the option that I could do my own Cap'n Zappy 2, and work on a platformer about someone else with Kayn.
Decisions, decisions...

Hm, this may be the perfect chance to debut myself.
I've got a decent game idea, and I've just started programming it. If I decide to stick with it, I'll be in need of an artist :)

Hmm, I've realized that I lack the ability to make a fun game. I don't know how many enemies I should have on the map at a time, and things like that....

So yes, if anybody would like to discuss how to better set up my game that would be cool. (But just give suggestions)

Quite the opposite. It is pretty much encouraged due to the fact it's royalty free.

Do both. Have a Capn Zappy sequel game AND the platformer.

People play Flash games for different reasons. Some people want a small game they can play on thier lunch break, other people want to get the full experience of a console game without the price. Besides, You'll end up animating Zappy at least once more anyway, and it's not like you're limited to entries.

Oh. And the D isn't capitalised. Bad Won.

Yes, using Glaiel is also considered cheating.

It depends on how heavy the code and stuff for them is. Experiment to see the minimum you can have without taking away from the game itself, and try to make sure more complex code isn't being called unless it's needed.

It also depends on how laggy it's gonna be.
It might be worth trying a stress test (ie. adding an extra enemy each time and checking the swf to see if it lags at all.)
Also, make sure your backgrounds don't lag. Try converting them into pngs if they're a bit detailed.

Or just using cache as bitmaps if you have Flash 8. Just make sure you're only moving them sideways an up (no rotations or scaling).

I'm not sure if the V-Cam will mess this up or not, but you shouldn't be using it for a game anyway.

I have a game Idea, now to find an artist. I've been a little flash-depressed since ponz and I never got our Halloween game out.
