Has anybody else noticed any hints of the new site around?

Today when I came onto NG I noticed the user menu in the header said "checking login status" or something similar, without a refresh the menu changed to the normal menu, AJAX?
Actually I've just looked at the source and noticed this is to do with checking cookies but do you think NG will be using AJAX?

Also if you view source on the BBS you will see some new Javascript with some mentioning of BBS versions..

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--
var bbs_version_status = 0;
//-->
</SCRIPT>

I'm just wondering if anybody has noticed anything new? Do you think including AJAX would make Newgrounds more functional?

Didn't find bbs_version_status in the source, but I did find this:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/ajaxagent.js"></script>

Looks like we might be seeing AJAX soon. Unless we are already, and its hidden in some other external JS file.

javascript:void(bbs_version_status = 1); Anyone?

I also looked at the source, it now shows Checking login status until it has checked the cookie.

I really hope not, it looks more like an old new topic button.

I think they will use AJAX, there are a lot of places it could be useful. There is a lot of javascript already used, so I don't think they'll worry about people not having JS enabled.

Yeah, the login thing is pretty nice.

It's almost like they were preparing for the new site last night, because a lot of features within Account options were taken off for a few hours.

Notice how they have a location=/oldbbs/ or something like that. Change it to location=/bbs/

or just click here

I don't know, that's kinda what they were originally going for with this new site.

The header is using ajax. Ross had been working on that for the past few days and put it up onto the site late last night. You can see it in effect by going to any non-dynamic area of the site (like the front page, portal index, audio portal index) and trying to log in/out.

As for the bbs_version_status thing - that's been around for years. It's basically an old (and ugly) hack to see whether the browser is capable of running javascript 1.2, given that parts of the script require that functionality. It's obsolete now and most certainly won't be around in the redesign.

Awesome. I hope the new site uses more ajax driven features.

Yup :) http://en.wikipedia...ax_%28programming%29

My description: it's basically using JavaScript, XML, and a server side language like PHP to do tasks in the browser without reloading the whole page, rather just an aspect of the page.

Okay, I see they haven't fixed up all the bugs with the new "instant athuntication" system...

Ironic, I'm asked to log in...when I'm already logged in! (nice login screen though..looks neat!)
