Whatever the situation was with the wmd's in Iraq, let me say this; if Bush was wrong about Saddam having them, then he wasn't the only one wrong. I'm not fond of how Bush has handled the situation with Osama, but at the same time I have no valid reason to believe that he is alive either.
Bush has caused a good deal of damage to the image of the Republican party in the long run, I won't deny that. But I wonder what effect Kerry's screwup will have on the Democratic party in the short run, especially so close to the mid term elections.

I've recently seen these adds on TV, one for new jersey.
Basically, they have the republican runner saying that he will support the Republican party.
Then they bring an attack on him, not personally, but on Bush, saying that because he''s a republican, he supports all of these.
I'm astounded by the general stupidity and partisan politics playing there.

It's my opinion that he may have really been joking. If he was there's no need to apologise.

What his statement implied about the level of education of our troops is false considering that people in the US Army have above-normal levels of education for people of their age group. The reason for such above-normal levels of education is that the army specifically targets college students.
Also, why can't he mean it when he apoligizes? It is easy; he apoligizes for statements that, at face value, make false and very offensive statements about a group of people, then gives a sincere and non-combative explanation of the intended meaning of his statements. This is probably what I would do. Kerry is just being stupid and thinks that if he goes on the attack that he can somehow turn it around. He probably will not be able to, and he is actually just drawing the whole ordeal out.

His comment does sound like a joke, but still, it was in bad taste. He already apologized. There IS some truth to what he said though. The most highly-educated and wealthiest people in the country don't end up in te front lines of Iraq and there is no disputing that. Of course, that should not imply that all soldiers are mal-educated just the ones who are doing stupid things like Lyndie and her ilk.

He doesn't really need to because its a pretty well known fact. Nowadays you have to have a high school diploma to enlist in the military (or a GED and equivalent), and you HAVE to receive college education to be a commissioned officer. The same is not true for alot of other western militaries, and almost NO militaries in other parts of the world require a comparable level of education.
Now, consider the fact that only 85% of Americans ages 25 and older have a highschool diploma (higher than in Canada, so nobody talk shit), and now you HAVE to have a highschool diploma or equivalent in the US military, its easy to see that American military personnel have a higher rate of education than average Americans (let alone average westerners).
Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:

I think a war veteran has the right to make remarks about the military - senator or not.
I didn't find the 'joke' particulary insulting or harmful, but perhaps a bit misplaced. The republicans are severely overreacting though, they remind me of Jack Thompson during the Hot Coffee-"scandal".

Obviously. I'm beginning to think the situation in the US is a bit too delicate for its own good.

I googled the name, but couldn't get a clear picture. Could you explain to me who Mcain is?

The point is, if your in politics and all that shit you should not make dumb statements like that. To say that our soldiers are uneducated is wrong and stupid. They do not let you in the army if your not at a certain level of education, most people are there due to patriotism and the belief of a free nation. I vote that we shut the fuck up about this kerry shit because we are never going to hear the end of this shit on the news.

Well hes probably going to be the Republican nominee for President in 2008. He is a wildcard because he is liked and supported by alot of Americans, not just Republicans. He has publicly criticized Bush in alot of areas, yet isn't a liberal-fellating Democrat and therefore just does what he thinks is right, I believe, regardless of his political affiliation.
Mccain is a moderate Republican. He's not too liberal, not too conservative. Therefore he would be likely to win the Presidential election because he would garner votes from both sides of the political spectrum. And Democrat politicans are as scared as hell of him because he would likely receive the vote from alot of Americans who usually vote for Democrats.
People think that if he wins the Republican nomination for President that he would ask current Secretary of State Condolleeza Rice to be Vice President who is African American, and this would negate the under-the-radar compaign techniques of Democrats who suggest to their voters covertly that Republicans are racist and sexist and so forth.
Basically, according to alot of political analysts. John Mccain simply will not lose the Presidential race if he keeps his nose clean until 2008. Then if you add Condoleeza Rice to the picture, the Democrats would basically be running a fruitless campaign because alot of their potentional voters would vote for Mccain.
Thats what most people believe it atleast.

1) Is anyone actually mad about this? I mean, I thought it was funny, funny how stupid it was to say that. But am I mad or outraged or whatever? No. I doubt he was trying to take a jab at the troops or Bush, it was just a crappy joke he shouldnt have said.
2) It is McCain. Mc-Cain. The fucking C is capitalized. Fenrus, you of all people should know this considering you are Scotch, no?

John Kerry made this remark while speaking at a college in California this week. Many veteran groups, soldiers, and of course Republicans are calling for an apology. Sen. John McCain calls it an insult. Kerry says it was just a botched joke.
After Tony Snow condemned the remark, Kerry said, "I'm not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium."
Should Kerry apologize?
If I ever become a politician, I'm going to be honest. Yes, but only because the elections are next week. The Democrats practically deserve the House and Senate, and Kerry should mess up their chances at the last moment.
As for Kerry's statement regarding the soldiers, I think it has some truth, sadly. Many soldiers are just students who are too poor to pay for college.
This is sort of unfair mind you, because this means that there is a disproportionate amount of poor people in the armed forces. My grandfather joined the Navy to pay for his college, mind you.
At least it seems that the Republicans are getting desperate at their last moments, as they are attacking mispoken phrases from Democrats. Normally this wouldn't be as significant, but Bush is known for mispeaking mind you.

Probably because no one gives a fuck. Moreover, that was shot years ago, before Bush even ran for President, whereas Kerry said this just a few days ago.
