Hmm...Reverend Al may run in 2004. This is EXCELLENT. (He is currently serving 90 days for trespassing on government/military property)
What will happen is that he will take away a good chunk of black (typically Democratic) votes from the Democratic Party candidate. This may ensure a win for President Bush, as he will have most of his original costituents, a few more won over, perhaps, and the ever increasing Hispanic population, which, unlike most minorities (Hispanics are now the largest minority, a contradiction?), are mostly Republican.
Another thing I noticed: The Democrats (and especially the American media itself) pose themselves as the "rational middle of the road centrists" and call the Republicans "right wing." The only time they mention left wing, which is what they are, is when talking about airplanes.

Just remember that he may even make it to the primaries but there is no way that he is going to get elected by the Democratic Party, so he's never going to get into any of the debates.
It would be nice if in this country you could vote for who you wanted to win, but it seems that most people seem to pick the lesser of the 2 evils when it comes to either the GOP's main candidate or the Democrat's main candidate.
Oh, and no party ever seems to look at themselves as they really are, that would just be....too rational.

Have you guys ever heard of a cajun runoff? Do you think it would work on a national scale?

I never implied that he'd make it as a dem. Hopefully, he will run as a third party.

The problem with running as a third party candidate is that not only is it very hard to get your voice heard, but the press won't touch you. When it comes down to who can participate in the debates, networks don't want third parties. Ralph Nader at the 2000 primaries had a high enough percentage in order to be included, did they, no.
Now, I can't stand party politics (im an independent myself) but the fact is that until America's Voters change the way in which they vote (ie. Negative Voting, using someone elses interpretation of the candidate to sway their vote)all we are going to see is either the leading Democrat or the Leading Republican.
